Getting the lock out of the top case ....

Ensure the key is in the lock, in the locked position I think, and "wiggle" it to help locate the release hole

That brings back memories Steve......of lots of sweating and swearing! not  I found it helped to locate the tool in the release hole, at no. 2, by sharpening the end of it to a point. Never again.....hopefully!  >:D

6 months I tried off and on Pete, with the cat "helping" by sitting in the box.....

Then one day I retried and did 3 in one go one after the other!! :)

After you'd re-coded the lock for me and I'd refitted it, I had a go at removing it again just to see if I could do it......easy peasy! The first time, another big help was an inspection lamp I made up from a sidelight bulb - I dangled that into the hole first so it was illuminating everything, then went in with the tool and could just see where the tool-end needed to locate.
