Re: Exhaust Flap Valve stuck at around 1000 miles - is this a record?

The exhaust flap is purely mechanical and has no impact on the products of combustion (emissions) formed by burning fuel in an internal combustion engine, end of story. Agree looking at the video I posted of how it works then I think its down to noise not emissions. Removing the CAT that could be t...

Casbar forgot to ask what grease do you use and do you think it makes a difference. If so how do you get the grease into the bearing surfaces ?

Re: Exhaust Flap Valve stuck at around 1000 miles - is this a record?

Thanks Casbar for further information. So you cannot rely on the sound when first switched on. Will have to pop off the cover and check the movement to inspect operation every month and see how it goes. At least I was able to free it so should be easier enough to include this in my monthly check. He...

Re: Exhaust Flap Valve stuck at around 1000 miles - is this a record?

Well after all this talk about the pesky exhaust valve I decided to go and check mine and blow me the bugger was seized !!. Took the silencer off to double check and no movement. Seized in open position as Casbar said. Took off the cables and tried to move the valve and it was well and truly stuck. ...

Here is a video of using a GS911 and discovering a stuck exhaust valve and what he did about it.

Re: Exhaust Flap Valve stuck at around 1000 miles - is this a record?

The exhaust flap issue has been around for ages. However the real problem came when the valve was incorporated into the downpipes requiring new downpipes to solve the issue. Prior to that the valve was in its own connecting tube which made it cheaper and easier to fix. I think the exhaust flap moves...

Re: Garmin Zumo problem

BoB, Tho' I rely only on the spoken directions for safety reasons, I actually prefer using my strapped-on IPad with its larger screen and ease of inputting of addresses/routes.  The only drawback is having to rely on wi-fi to change routes on the fly;  but I usually only need dire...

Re: My 1250 is poorly

I wouldn't except the bike back until its fixed. If you have their loaner and are putting miles on it, make sure they know that, then the pressure is on them to get your bike fixed. A mate of mine had so much problem with the SOS system on his new GS that in the end he demanded a replacement bike wi...

Re: FJR1300 V's R1200RT

Comparing a 4 cylinder FJR or 6 cylinder K1600GT with the boxer twin, the smoothness of the multi cylinder bikes will always feel they have more performance and the ability to cruise effortlessly at high speeds, and of cause they do. The RT keeps the speeds to non ban speeds (UK) for me. I test rode...

Re: Exhaust Flap Valve stuck at around 1000 miles - is this a record?

But how long will that one last ? If or rather when mine goes I will replace the exhaust with a system without the pesky valve. Now I understand that the valve is there to get the bike through the regulations, which is why BMW must know all about it but still insist on the design. But why not make t...

Re: Exhaust Flap Valve stuck at around 1000 miles - is this a record?

Wow that's a record. I presume on your RT1250 the exhaust valve is in the one piece down pipes as it is on my 2014LC RT. Dumb design indeed. I must be one of the lucky ones because as yet I have not had an issue, bike's covered 46k miles. On a new bike you must be really pissed off. Sounds like the ...

Re: FJR1300 V's R1200RT

Hi Stu I make the move from FJR to RT back in 2014. Took my missus with me when testing the bike to see if she like it. Got a big thumbs up ! Pillion comfort much better and no vibration through the pegs. I found the RT a more relaxed riding position. Think the RT handles much better too. If you hav...

Re: Phone Mounting - Power Options

Another possible option if you have aux sockets on your bike is using a splitter.

This avoids any permanent changes to bikes wiring.
