Boxer engines and rider injuries

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25793434 This is very interesting. My story would support that finding. About a dozen years ago, I was riding my BMW R100RT (boxer engine) south on Mission Road south of Tucson, Arizona, USA. It was a two-lane road with a 50 MPH (80 km/h) speed limit, and I was r...

Re: Motorcycle lifts

Most dealers on this side of the pond use the Handy Lift.  That is what I use now.

I used to use the Harbor Freight lift, which is inexpensive, but not too sturdy.

Re: Non BMW Screen and extra mirrors

I have never been troubled by the stock mirrors.  I am 6-4 and they work fine.  Is something wrong with me?

I have a friend in Michigan who is 6-7, and he also uses only the stock mirrors.

Clearwater Erica lights on a 2015 R1200RT

When Clearwater came out with its under-mirror brackets, which bring the lights up higher, I could no longer resist.  Iron Horse BMW, Tucson, Arizona, USA, installed them for me Dec. 21. https://clearwaterlights.com/collections/featured/products/erica-1?variant=21518682885 http://bmwdean.co...

Re: Tyre pressures fully loaded

Owner's manual puts tire pressures at 36/42 psi front/rear without reference to loading.

Re: New RT Rider - Couple of Questions

Better late than never to get a BMW RT.

Be careful, though.  If you go to your dealer and test ride a new R1200RTW, you will return home somewhat poorer.

Re: How is the new RT in hot weather?

In very hot weather I use the Veskimo -- http://www.veskimo.com/

I bungee the 9-quart cooler on the passenger seat -- http://www.veskimo.com/personal-cooling ... quart.html

Then I also use my BMW jacket and keep it zipped shut to hold the coolness in.

Re: Lower foot pegs

I mounted my Suburban Machinery lower foot pegs kit on my 2015 RT this morning.  It was a lot easier than I first feared. The spring looked intimidating.  It is not.  It is not under compression when the foot peg is down.  When you install the spring  you...

Re: RTLC is HOT!

I live in Southern Arizona and have no complaint about engine heat on my 2015 or 2007 RTs.  I think the ducting is pretty effective.

You want to feel real engine heat?  Ride some of the other bikes listed above or a Harley.

Re: Potential new R1200RT owner

I have been riding BMW RTs  since the 1980s.  A Wisconsin native, I never owned a Harley.  I did visit the Harley factory once -- on my RT. The seat is the major issue with an R1200RT.  Get Russell Day-Long saddles and your butt problems are over.  Info i...
