If you could upgrade one item before a tour...

So I'm staring down a long (to me; I know some of you call 1600 miles "the weekend") tour in late August from Boston, Mass to the Gaspé Peninsula in Québec. Having spent a little over 2500 miles now getting to know the bike, there are a few things I'm planning to upgrade in the rider comf...

Re: Intermittent Starting Issue

I've had the same issue with my '14 intermittently, crank and crank but it won't turn over - let it sit for a second and hit the starter again and it'll fire up without any hesitation. In my experience the chance of it refusing the start is directly proportional to the number of coworkers who've com...

Re: What have you got planned for 2015?

Yankee checking in, nothing quite so exciting as some of the other trips in here! Among various smaller last-minute trips I'm sure I'll end up on, my big trip for 2015 will be a trip with a couple friends up to the Gaspé Peninsula in Quebec, Canada. Somewhat ashamed to say it'll be my first time out...

Experience Riding in The Gaspésie?

Good evening all, I'm planning a my big summer trip this year from my home north of Boston, Massachusetts up to Gaspé, Quebec with some friends. As a former V-Strom rider, I'm noticing all the dirt roads coming up in my mapping app and getting excited, but now being an R1200RT owner with less-than-o...

Re: Newbie

Christer, greetings from the U.S.! It makes me feel a little better  to know I'm not the only one longing for warmer weather's return so I can do more than just sit on the bike making engine noises... Right?

...guys?

Re: Fresh blood! Considering purchasing an RT

For anyone still interested, I've had the bike for about a week and a half now and managed to put 175 miles on it thanks to a combination of stubbornness, the RT's awesome wind protection and comfort features in cold weather, and an innate resistance to cold thanks to my upbringing in Maine. Still l...

Re: Fresh blood! Considering purchasing an RT

DavidCater, what did the dealer say was the reason for the buyback, the rear shock recall or something else? I'd assume having a mark like that on its title would certainly negatively impact its resale same as it would on a car, but if it's just for the known (and presumably fixed on your bike) shoc...

Re: Fresh blood! Considering purchasing an RT

Well, today was the day! A balmy 37 °F when I left the dealer with my very own '14 in the ebony black paint. Had a very nice ride back south to the warmer climes (43 °F!) of home, between the heated grips, seat, and the size of the windshield I was amazingly comfortable (I wouldn't quite go so far a...

Re: Fresh blood! Considering purchasing an RT

Just an update for anyone interested, I took a trip out to a dealer today advertising a trio of new 2014's and got to take one for a test ride. The bike certainly took some getting used to over to my Strom (riding that is nearly a full-body workout at times) but being a slow day they let me run the ...

Re: Fresh blood! Considering purchasing an RT

Thank you all, this is excellent and definitely helpful, though perhaps not so much for my poor wallet... Having done a little more digging around I have found a few dealers up in New Hampshire that seem to have a fair number of 2014s (some low-mileage used, others still new) that are definitely tem...

Fresh blood! Considering purchasing an RT

Hello! I'm a current Suzuki V-Strom 1000 rider who has realized his touring doesn't often include "adventure" as the V-Strom / GS crowd considers it and has started looking more towards a comfortable road tourer instead. After stopping off at a local BMW dealer a month back I saw a 1200RT ...
