Re: Top Box for R1200RT
..... I thought I might add a top box to my 2016 R1200RT - Sapphire Blue - dealer quoted a staggering £920 for 'the big one' plus a further £144 for painting. Anyone got any comparators or other advice? I have a quote (all prices including VAT): Top case white aluminium with lock cylinder & VIN...

Re: Considering an RT..
..... My nearest dealer has an RT demonstrator which I understand is the basic version. If I were to go for this bike can the different equipment packages-Premium package,Dynamic package,etc- be added later or would I need to go for a brand new machine if I want those features? ..... You really nee...

Re: tyre life
Not sure what mileage you get out of PR3s, I got just over 6k before I had to change my front tyre and it was cupped. So my new one, I'm running at 40 psi to see if that helps. From previous post : My Michelin PR3s have done 8000 miles, including two European tours and a lap of the Nurburgring and ...

Re: tyre life
Very bad things about PR4s - really. I think they have been really good. Think tyres are very subjective. Unless you do back to back testing I would say its really hard to know if a tyre is really bad. For me PR4GT have been great in both dry and wet. But then I am not a riding god. Reading back th...

Re: Insurance claim rejected ?
..... Me thinks if it's bike manufacturer or tyre manufacturer recommended for your model you are OK. Excessive wear, wrong size or rating you're not OK. That sounds right to me. I believe if your front tyre is a recommended fitting and in good (ie legal) condition, and the rear ditto, th...

Insurance claim rejected ?
I've read many comments in tyre threads giving dire warnings of insurance claims being rejected due to tyres being non - recommended, mixed brands or different evolutions of the same tyre. Does anybody on the forum know of an insurance claim being rejected SOLELY on the basis of tyre choice (not tyr...

Re: tyre life
I've read some very good things and a lot of very bad things about PR4s. Does anyone have anything bad to say about PR3s ? My experience of them has been nothing short of brilliant - handling, dry grip, wet grip at least as good as anything else I've used, and tyre life absolutely outstanding. I wou...

Re: Oil Useage
My 2013 twin cam doesn't use any oil.
It has passed 34,000 miles and I wasn't overly gentle running it in.

Re: tyre life
My Michelin PR3s have done 8000 miles, including two European tours and a lap of the Nurburgring and now measure 3mm front and 4mm rear. Previous PR3s have been changed at up to 11,500 miles (front) and 7,600 miles (rear), but not necessarily down to the legal limit. I'm serious...

Re: Lights Deflectors For Riding In Europe
Here's what I did for my 2010 then 2013 (pre-LC) headlights : I bought a headlamp protector, copied the template from the BMW workshop manual, and painted it onto the headlamp protector. Stuck it on to the headlamp with the velcro tabs and you have a headlight without the dazzle for European drivers...

Re: Time to change ?
Well, I turned up at the dealer 10 minutes before the appointed time - no RT Iconic to be seen. Where is it ? Out on loan and hasn't been returned. Person with the bike not answering his phone. OK, I'll wait a while, have a coffee. Thirty minutes later, I asked if the GS in the showroom was a demo b...

Re: Time to change ?
Keyless on the RT is limited as you still need the fod for central locking and the alarm and of course this is buried somewhere under your kit. It's also an ugly fitting . Drove me demented on a 1600 and was glad to get rid of it. Get a flat battery with the steering locked and your stranded on the...

Re: Ferry crossing
I've been going over to the continent at least once a year for nearly 30 years and I've never seen a bike fall over during a crossing. The best advice I've seen for securing a bike is : 1. select first gear 2. push bike forward to take slack out of the transmission 3. put bike on side stand 4. turn ...

Re: Top case not color matched?
This is the way BMW have done business for years. A dealer can usually get the topbox colour matched to the bike for around £200, or you can take it to your local car body shop.

Re: Time to change ?
I took delivery of my Iconic on Saturday. (52/100). I have spent the last three days trying to figure out how to wrangle more time off work to ride it. You only live once. They have an Iconic as a demo? That would be worth an ask. They are allowed to sell them after 90 days. Don't believe all the t...
