Re: Tinnitus and Touring

The message seems to be find some combination of bike, screen, helmet and plugs that suits you personally. For me custom made plugs are the most comfortable for long journeys. But I like having disposable ear plugs handy in the pockets of my various jackets. If you google "earplug samples"...

Re: Weeping Water Pump

Just to add to it my 2 year old bike had its annual service yesterday and the dealer pointed out the telltale leak on the left side of the crankcase. It will be in next month for remedial work under warranty. Must check water levels in future......

Re: "wired" bike/dash cam

A few recent events have made me think about dash cams. My wife got sideswiped in her car by a scrote who was belting down our narrow lane and didn't stop. She didn't get the number and "rat-faced boy in black car" isn't a good enough description for the Police. By the same token I saw tha...

Re: Corrosion

I had a R1200S which had the front discs, all the fasteners at the front end and both sliders replaced after 12 months because of corrosion. Cannons at Braintree were excellent and I couldn't fault them. I was telling a motorcyclist friend about it and singing BMW's after sales service when he point...

Re: Custom decals

In the old days if you had a white bike with a fairing and a white crash helmet car drivers assumed you were a police bike and slowed down. Police bikes in my part of the world (Essex, UK) are now so rare no one remembers what they look like.

Re: Crash bars - to be or not to be that is the question

Police bikes always have crash bars. Maybe just for the spots and ancillary equipment? I was hit by a car. The cylinder head and panniers took all the impact so my leg was untouched. I did wonder what would have happened if I had been on my previous bike (a Triumph) or if I had been riding without t...

Re: Custom decals

Thanks for the post. The're fun. And if you get fed up with them you just peel them off. But someone will post that because the're not a genuine BMW accessory (and should cost €500 not €50) then they will upset high speed handling and invalidate your warranty. They might even make you infertile.

Welcome. You're in the right place. The guys on this forum are very knowledgeable. I've had lots of bikes over the years but the RT has felt like coming home.

Re: cylinder head protection bars?.

My tuppence worth. Protecting the heads seems sensible. Riding with panniers on is a real safety issue. A car turned into me and this was the result. I didn't even get knocked off. His wing was totalled. He paid for a new cylinder head cover, bolts, seals etc £400. Pannier lower scratched but it pol...

Re: New here & looking for top tips please

The Sat V is very nice. Hard for me to say this about BMW accessories but worth the money.
I got a cheapie wireless intercom (T-Com SC, two headsets, links to satnav, £72 online) that's still going strong after 12 months. Easy to set up too.

Re: Think I might have wasted a bunch of money!

Hi Lubedude. What was the end result? They say good service is how people deal with a problem, not whether you have a problem in the first place. Kind of true but Hondas don't break down in the first place. I had a new Triumph three years ago and it broke down as I drove home from the dealers. Batte...

Re: Rear Chevron Markings

At least we think about visibility and accident avoidance. I've just come home. It's wet and it's getting dark outside. I've just driven down the lane to the house and passed a young man on a push bike, no lights, headphones on and hoody up. I despair. One for the Darwin Prize?

Re: Rear Chevron Markings

I was keen to make myself more noticeable from the rear. As the bike is grey and silver I went for what I thought was the stylish option. However in the UK we have rather specific requirements laid down in our Traffic Regulations (I had completely missed this so thank you to bunny2585 for pointing i...

Re: Well, crap. Laid it over.

Is there something about the size of the RT? I've never felt quite so nervous before about falling over on a bike at slow speed or a stop. I'm six foot and I can get both feet flat on the ground so it's not that. I wonder if it's something to do with the width-I can't remember having similar worries...

Re: SPRING IS JUST ROUND THE CORNER

And the daffodils are out. It's been a strange winter so far. Only one application of road salt so far and that was two months ago.
