Kick stand switch

Had an issue with the bike not wanting to start.  Thought it was the kick stand switch and so replaced it.  Bike starts now in all modes: neutral, stand up or down; in gear, stand up, clutch lever in.  However, I recall being able to start it with the stand down, in gear b...

Headlight Replacement

While the lights on my 2015 R1200RT are  bright, the headlight doesn't last too long.  I'm tired of scraping my hands tryin to replace it. Time for the LED conversion. I'm looking for one that is a "plug & play" type so that I don't have to modify the rear cover to ac...

Shift up indicator

My 2015 1200RT has the "shift up" indicator and I'm curious what that is predicated on.  Speed, torque, RPM or a combination of all?  I don't generally use it to tell me when to shift as after 30+ years of riding I can tell when to shift up or down.  Just a curio...

Re: michelin road 50 puncture repair

Just a follow up regarding my tire puncture. I plugged it with a repair kit and was able to put a few miles on.  All the way monitoring the pressure with the TPM and a hand held Gage.  Maintained pressure for the rides but I was aware of it's temp. condition.  Had new Mich...

michelin road 50 puncture repair

My rear tire, (Michelin Road 50) has a small sheet metal screw, (3/16" dia) in the middle of the tread.  It's leaking a bit.  Tread on the tire is still great and don't want to simply replace it cause it's mucho $$'s. Thought about the plug type I've always used on cars, etc. ...

Re: Michelin Road 5GTs

Installed a set of Road 5's on my 2015 RT.  4-k miles on them so far.  The feel is more solid/secure in wet conditions than with the Road 4 GT's previously run.  I assume that's due to the more effective water displacement tread design.  I'm not a real aggressive ...

Re: Clearwater LED Spots - fitment

I've installed Clearwater Darla lights on my 2015 R1200RT and wife's F800GT.  And I agree that they are "brilliant" and a bit "pricey" but well worth the cost.  Several motorists have come up to me and told me, "now I can really see motorcycles on the road&...

Final Drive Maintenance

I've always had the service on my 2015 R1200RT done by a BMW certified shop, (West Side Motor Sports, Spokane, WA. USA).  Since I live about a 3 hour drive/ride from the shop, I decided to do regular maintenance my self; oil and filter, air filter and final drive fluid change, spline lube.&...

Re: Valve Cover Gasket

Thanks Pete.  Currently have 40 thousand miles on the bike and while the covers have been off to check valve clearances, the gaskets have never been replaced.  Makes sense that they would get harder with heat and age.
Cheers,
Paul

Valve Cover Gasket

Have a 2015 R1200RT and will be replacing the left valve cover gasket, have a bit of oil leaking. Question: After thoroughly cleaning both sealing surfaces (engine side and cover side) does anyone recommend an additional sealant?  Like Permatex, or similar products.  I have OEM gas...

Tank Switch Error

I have a 2015 R1200RT and have a Tank Switch Error Code: 80401.  Before the error the fuel filler cap could not be opened with the engine running, or, if engine was off, with out the key fob being present.  Now it can be opened at any time.  The only other symptom I've not...

Re: Display Issue

An interesting solution.  I'll give it a try.  Rather like "hard booting" my computer.
Thanks

Great riding over here east of the mountains.  Very little traffic and most folks wave with an open hand rather that the 1-finger salute.

Cheers,
Paul G.

Display Issue

Hi all; Have had a few issues with my display on my 2015 R1200RT.  Less than 23000 miles; i.e. still under the BMW 30/3 year warranty. Windscreen is programmed to retract to the closed position once the ignition is switched off.  It stays at the last position when riding. ...

Re: Screen cleaner

Been a pilot and aircraft owner since 1987.  After a flight I always use warm soapy water, soft cloth, rinse and dry.  Then Plexus for the polish.  It's made by BTI and I've always gotten mine from Aircraft Spruce. Thought I'd try it on my 2015 R1200RT and partner's 2014 F...

Re: Darla Lights

Just completed the Darla installs on my 2015 R1200RT and my wife's 2014 F800GT.  Talk about BRIGHT!  No issues lighting the road for a great distance ahead and to the sides as well.  They also serve to make one very visible to traffic, especially with the optional amber co...
