Re: How do you feel about the sportier nature of your RT?

Alternatively, if the wallet allows have two bikes! I keep my Ducati, which I use when in the mood for a spirited ride around the local B roads. But for anything else it has to be the RT.

Re: First big tour

Yes you do It seems to state that you have to carry them for rider and pillion but only mandated to wear if broken down on side of the road? The stickers on the helmet is also news to me. However I have a feeling that most 'newer' helmets have them. What about spare visors, I never had any issues, ...

Re: First big tour

Puncture repair kit. You can wait a long time for recovery. A repair kit will get you to the next town. And don't forget a means to inflate the tyre! Good call, just got an Oxford product item from my local Infinity shop. I already have a really compact 12v pump which will now be added to the kit l...

Re: First big tour

Thanks for all the tips and recommendations, much appreciated. Looks like I need to take less kit, that is for sure and get some bike specific insurance. One last check of bike today and a practice luggage pack tomorrow and I'm all ready to go, just a week early 😏

Re: Helmet cam

Thanks for the feedback. I'd not considered a camera fixed to the bike but definitely see advantages here. Food for thought

Re: What would it take to get the brake system from a 2007 to a 2005 model ?

It is a matter of budget tough. As if i had 10000E to spare ... it would have been ok. I doubt i will find a decent spec 2007 under 5.5 - 6k euros. Well, if on a tight budget and happy with the brake set-up, with your new found knowledge you should get the bike for a steal. And no servo worries ^-^

Re: What would it take to get the brake system from a 2007 to a 2005 model ?

I found a good looking bike, well mentained and a decent price, but It has the ABS system removed (pipes connected directly to the calipers). Now, i could install again the servo ABS but i was wondering if it can take the newer ABS without servo. I'm the proud owner of a very clean (read no corrosi...

Re: Which bluetooth?

I recently purchased the Sena S10 dual (latest model) and found it to be an excellent bit of kit. Quick & easy installation with latest version of BT giving long battery life and excellent audio, all driven by an iphone app. Happy days : )

Re: Electric gremlins - own goal

A new horn would be the fraction of the cost of a new switch. Can you put power directly to the horn to test it. I took it apart again, de-gunnked the whole horn, applied WD40 and guess, what, it's working again. So I think you were spot on with the road grim analysis, thank you. So time to go up t...

Re: Electric gremlins - own goal

So so farI've found the following: 1. If I only hit the horn for one blast then it's fine. It's when I do a double blast in quick succession that it fails and this happens after 3 - 5 goes. I've un-plugged the connector to the horn and squirted in some contact cleaner but the Problem remains. So not...

Electric gremlins - own goal

Been out on a fully loaded (luggage and misses on back) shake down run on my 06 RT ahead of my Italian tour which kicks off in a couple weeks. So a couple things have played up. Firstly after a few uses of the horn it stops working completely. It come back to life if you stop and turn the ignition o...

Re: GARMIN 660/BMW Nav IV AND BASECAMP

I'm a bit new to the whole route planning thing. So Mapsource and Basecamp are Garmin and BMW offerings providing similar functions and features? I picked-up my 660 secondhand without any route planning software. Doing a Google search I came across 'tyre' and for a few euros got a life time license....

Re: Going to look at a 2005 R1200RT. What do I need to know?

Hi RTman and other contributors, I took your advice and bought a 2011 RT SE, 15k miles. Ok, I paid more than I originally intended but as I aim to head to S.Spain on it I figured its worth the investment. I traded my VFR800 and quite honestly was glad to see the back of it - it didn't suit my style...
