Re: BMW Puncture Repair Kit

ok, go on - I'll ask even if nobody else will... what on earth are they?? Hi Richard, David has confirmed what I suspected. The Gizmo under the tail unit does seem to be the Tyre Pressure Monitor unit. The "Fuel Pump Bypass Spur" is a small electrical lead which I cobbled together which a...

Re: BMW Puncture Repair Kit

Have you got room under the seat behind the tail light unit, I've got a Slime mini compressor stashed there. No can do David, on our bike most of that space is taken up by the BMW Tellenummer / Schrader Electronics Gizzmo box, although there is just enough room to store my puncture outfit and Fuel ...

Re: BMW Puncture Repair Kit

Can anyone please advise which of the "Electric" pumps will fit inside the front offside "Glove Box" of the Twincam RT. I modified the box on our previous Hexhead RT so as to accept my current pump but that required quite a lot of "butchery" so I am reluctant to go down...

Re: Cylinder head cover bolt - sheared off. ahhhhhhhhhh

Bad luck "mattye", but looking at the pictures and the info from SweRT that the screw does not bottom out, which the "shoulder" at the end of the threaded portion would suggest, removal should not be a big problem. Aldi have stud "Extractors" at a keen price although I'...

Re: Roadsmart "Combination"

Wow, this is getting interesting. I've just Googled "Mis-Matching Motorcycle Tyres" and there's a wealth of stuff out there. I think a lot of the fuss is born out by the very term "Mis-Matched" as if it means "Dangerously Matched". Dunlop's response (thanks David) does ...

Re: Roadsmart "Combination"

We also discussed the mixing of tread patterns, RS 3 on the front & RS 1 on the rear, said he will get someone to look into it & call me back. Thanks for that David. I will be interested to hear what they have to say. Personally I don't have that much concern having a Roadsmart 1 on the rea...

Roadsmart "Combination"

Morning all, just had a reply back from the Tyre Doctor at Dunlop UK with a quite non-committal opinion to a query I asked. Basically I asked if it would be ok to run a Roadsmart 1 rear with a Roadsmart 3 front on an RT. All they would say is that both the Roadsmarts 1 and 3 are "Sport Touring&...

Re: Tire Pressure

Could be that your dealer had inflated the tyres (tires) to the recommended "Solo" pressures of 32 / 36 and that the couple of PSI difference you measured on the front could be down to air loss whilst fitting the gauge. (Not a lot of air volume in the front and very easy to lose a few PSI).

Altberg for me as well. Had mine for 10 years now. Had them re-soled and re-lined at the factory about 5 years ago. Still as good as new.

Re: Its that doggone TPM

Check the pressures before your ride with a trusted tyre pressure gauge, job done. Use the TPS (RDC)  as a warning of any loss of pressure. You will receive 2 warnings, the final one being the General Warning Triangle which will flash "Red". That's how it works on the Twincam. Inc...

Couldn't say for sure. I was there  there recently but I wondered into the waiting area whilst the tyre was fitted.

Re: Missing balance stickers..

Some tyre fitters don't clean/degrease the area of the rims prior to sticking the balance weights on, then they fall off. Agreed, having watched countless tyre changes on my loose wheels at various local tyre shops I have only noticed one place where they cleaned the rim with propriatory cleaner be...

Re: It's here, with an unexpected gift

I have had two rear wheel punctures on RT's, the last one about three years ago was on a Dunlop Roadsmart which had less than 100 miles on and occured a week before a long trip down to Provence. Luckily the offending "joinery staple" had penetrated right in the centre of the tread pattern....

Re: Rear caliper mounting bolt

Trapezodial thread is used in high load situations. The thread top and bottom are squared off and the side wall is usually at a steeper angle. Personally I would mess with brake components that have been designed and specified for that particular application such as good "shear" properties...
