Re: Front Paddock Stand

Re: Newbie from Scotland

Blimey Badger, that's uncanny. Not too many of the last version of the Futura around and yours is exactly the same as mine, even down to the multi panelled seat. Cracking bike and must be worth hanging on to.

Re: Newbie from Scotland

Welcome aboard Badger,

cracking looking RT you have there and I see you are a man of taste as I have spotted the rear end of the RST1000 Futura sneaking into the picture. Looks just like my own (sadly gone now) Black and Silver one, bought new in 2005, one of the last imported into the UK.

Re: Corrosion

150 reads so far but only 2 bikes with obvious problems.  For sure its not good but on the LCs doesn't seem to be a widespread issue. I see your point but surely that dosen't mean that the other 148 bikes don't have a problem. We all have different levels of expectation and quality levels....

Re: Corrosion

This is indeed a bummer John, especially when you consider that this winter there has been very little road salt used in the UK. I myself have had both the Final Drive and Footest Hangers replaced on our Twincam due to the same paint problems you describe. Personnaly, I am of the opinion that the on...

Re: Purchase of 2016 BMW 1200 RT

BMjoe64.  +1 to that.  I have had RTs since 1996 with a shirt break for K1600s. Only the Ks ever gave me trouble.  There have been items over the last 5 years or so that have resulted in some loss of confidence amongst owners. These were fuel guage and switch gear failure...

Surprised they still haven't been spreading the evil stuff just to make sure they maintain their allocation allowance for next season. !!

Re: starter motor strip & service.

Bit puzzled as to where you applied the Copper Grease. Don't know if things have changed these days but I always thought that the sliding drive gear components (if that's what you are refering to) should be clean and "dry".

Re: Rear Chevron Markings

Brings back memories of myself being shunted up the rear. There I was sat stationary in the middle of the road waiting to turn right into a petrol station when I  heard the scary sound of something ? sliding up behind me. Next thing I remember was being catapulted off my bike (actually it w...

Re: Stripped threads on the screen mounting rails

Having tried a couple of Cee Baileys Windshields on both my 2007 & 2010 RT's, one problem I found was that sometimes the Actuator (motor) wouldn't drive the screen up & down when travelling at certain speeds. My concern was causing damage to the Actuator (electrically overloading it) & ...

Re: Stripped threads on the screen mounting rails

I have heard that the two screen support brackets can snap,is this due to fitting larger screens ?? I saw on a Web site you can replace them with stainless steel brackets.any boy fitted them ?? Yup, I have. Same pair been on my last two RT's. I obtained them from a chap in Canada about 6 years ago ...

Replaced with a longer screw and found plenty of thread engagement.  Problem solved.
