Battery Charging.

The Haynes Manual (R1200 D.O.H.C. Twins 2010-2012) specifically states "Do not connect a battery charger to the battery terminals while the battery is on the Bike". As I have always carried out this very procedure (Three R1200RTs) without any known problems I am wondering just what negativ...

Never noticed this before ?.

During a ride out this morning the Air Temperature was only about 7 degrees so about 5 miles into the ride I flicked on the Grip Heaters to the first position. Just after that I accelerated down a Slip Road to join a major road. As I switched on the Right Turn indicator to indicate I was joining the...

Re: Brake Caliper Pistons (To Lube or Not ! !)

Not sure really, bit over zealous I suppose, and as you rightly point out, it's not a listed service requirement doing so could be detrimental. So then, just a good Caliper and Piston clean with my favourite secret stuff and re-assemble. Those rear pad Springs are a bit hit and miss Heath Robinson a...

Brake Caliper Pistons (To Lube or Not ! !)

During the current crappy UK weather I am taking the opportunity to Service all three Brake Calipers on my Camhead. In the past, and after cleaning all components I have lightly lubed the exposed portions of the Pistons with Silicone grease. I know, some say that this only attracts dust and muck whi...

Re: Maxxis Tyres

Maxxis replaced at 2350 miles. Not at all happy after a couple of wet slides. Replaced with Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE. In all fairness I can say that I never had any complaints with the Maxxis in "dry " weather. They did give a nice ride with plenty of grip. Incidentally, my chosen tyre fitte...

Re: Maxxis Tyres

Just back from my second ride out of this year. And guess what, two distinct occasions of "loss of traction". OK, the weather was cold at about 7 degrees and the road was wet with some loose surface degradation, but anyone who knows the B1257 in North Yorkshire will know that this normal. ...

Re: Free Shaft replacement from BMW

Thanks for that "Wierpig" . Although minor water ingress, (mainly accessing via poorly fitted or un-sealed Rear Boots) has always always been known about, the current Shaft Replacement and Swingarm Drain Hole Mod program, which must be costing BMW a small fortune is quite frankly unbelieva...

Please can anyone advise just what is "failing" on the affected Shafts and are the Replacements a re-design ?. Thanks.

Well spotted Sir !
Just had a quick look at my 2011 Twin Cam RT which appears to be the same. Must say I have never noticed this before. Now we need someone to explain the reason for this slightly odd arrangement. Over to you David.

Guzzi Mandello

Always had a soft spot for Moto Guzzi so I took a great interest when the Mandello was first announced. I even went along to our local Guzzi dealer to see the new bike "In The Flesh". Very pretty little thing, although not a Tourer. All the Magazine Road Test reports where pretty much the ...
