Re: Think I might have wasted a bunch of money!

Took it out for a ride today added 50 miles, so far so good. Now I have to learn how to work all the options!

Re: Think I might have wasted a bunch of money!

I have gotten the bike back although it came with a new scratch. It was the starter although I have not been riding yet to confirm that it is fixed. Maybe today the weather is decent . I need to get my confidence back in this machine. 35 years on Yamaha's and never got left on the side of the road. ...

Re: What Colour is Your RT TC

By popular demand a Poll of "What Colour is Your RT TC" has been set up. I've had a 2010 in Thunder Grey & now got a 2012 in Midnight Blue, therefore have voted for the latter. If you have another Colour, please post here & I'll add it to the Poll. Mine is Platinum Bronze Metallic.

They have mentioned that BMW would try to make it right, and yes no snow. It is 56 degrees F. here.

Re: Think I might have wasted a bunch of money!

The service you are getting is not acceptable and it's time to get angry. Their comment about the imobilser is interesting. They tell you they haven't got a battery but without a charged battery connected or one with a very low charge it always shows a fault. Demand a new bike or your money back. L...

Re: Think I might have wasted a bunch of money!

Not sure why they didn't take a battery from a bike they already had. I guess they just didn't care enough. Anyway the bike is still in the shop waiting for a starter, which they claim caused the battery to discharge and ruined the battery. Once the new starter is installed they will check the immob...

Re: Think I might have wasted a bunch of money!

Lubedude Where are you located My dealer here in socal Long beach Bmw would have picked up the extra towing charges and given me a loaner till it was fixed. FYI on my new 15 battery needed to be charged before installing in bike, to great of charging amps may have fried it, in which case it was dea...

Re: Think I might have wasted a bunch of money!

It must be a very small or remote dealership if they don't hold a stock of batteries. Incidentally is the bike totally stock or have they fitted any electrical accessories for you. The bike is totally stock and has less than 50 miles on it, the dealer is the one that BMW roadside assistance took th...

Re: Think I might have wasted a bunch of money!

Cheer up! They will change it under warranty and you have a very good chance that your bike will serve you without any more trouble. Batteries do that sometimes. I had a 2008 GS that just done the same to me at less then 1000 miles in the ODO, then I had it for an other 50000 without any issues And...

Re: Think I might have wasted a bunch of money!

Sorry to hear of your unusually bad new bike experience ! Don't you have legislation stateside to protect the consumer with duff motor vehicles, ie lemon laws, or does that vary state to state? Last October, here in the UK, there was quite a pronounced change in the Consumer Protection Act:- The bi...

Re: Think I might have wasted a bunch of money!

Your post is understandable as is your frustration mate. However, to put it in perspective, this is not a widely reported of common fault so it's likely as has been suggested to be an isolated battery or charging circuit fault. BMW don't make the battery's they only fit them and I believe the same ...

Think I might have wasted a bunch of money!

So sad to have to make this post, but I guess I just need to vent. After 49 years of riding Japanese motorcycles and finally deciding to invest in the uber reliable BMW brand I am sad to say my relationship with the new bike is off to a bad start. Purchased a brand new 2016 R1200RT, rode it home fro...

Re: OEM Top Box for 2015 RT

Your trunk setup looks good especially, the color match. I have ridden a full dress tourer for the last 30 years so I am aware of the convenience of a large trunk. I decided to go with a sport tourer because I felt as though I didn't need a large trunk anymore. I am going to see how things go for no...

Re: OEM Top Box for 2015 RT

Just repeating what someone with over 200,000 miles riding these things told me. The box is so large that it interferes with the air stream flowing over and around the bike, Just saying ! Anyway the thing is just ugly and not proportioned to the bike very well. It looks more aftermarket than some of...

Re: OEM Top Box for 2015 RT

Yes the top box is overpriced, ugly and not color matched. I opted to not go that route. Also a couple of people at the dealerships told me it can cause some handling issues due to its enormous size. I will be looking to the aftermarket for my top case. BMW does sell a smaller version which is large...
