Re: Low MPG
A suggestion is at the next refuelling, fill to max and reset all the trips and the fuel consumption on the computer make a note of the odometer as well. then cover a known distance and refuel and cross check. It would be very useful if you have a sat-nav or even the phone with google maps...

Re: RT-LC vs GS-LC
Shared that experience when you find the ground isn't where you expect it to be, so I have the same. Engine crash bar and head guards. Also found that a good pair of boots with a nice thick sole helps, got a pair of Altbergs with very grippy soles. Particularly useful when paddling the bike, even th...

Re: Cigarette lighter?
A possible solution is to put a splitter into one of the spark plug leads, run it upto the handlebars, attach a coil and adapted spark plug on a goose neck so you can reach it. This way the faster you go the quicker it should light. Being a non-smoker not sure if a spark can ignite a cigarette, wort...

Re: Luddites
I'm all for adding stuff that makes life easier, bought mine as used so miss the cruise control, radio, heated seat etc.... Does the uppy/down windshield, electric starts, heated grips, fuel readouts and other information on the dash fall into unnecessary technology leading to unreliability? I quite...

Re: Warming Up Before Riding
Interesting about the oil circulation as the oil level is taken after the engine has been running and up to temperature, then switching it off and leaving for about 5 minutes. It suggests that the oil has to settle back into the sump. How much is then left covering the moving parts? Mine doesn't wor...

Re: RT-LC vs GS-LC
It really bugs me when people say they are vertically challenged being 5'8", try being 5'4" with 28" inside leg and getting on a GS or RT. Problem is not getting the leg over it, it's finding the ground to put it on! The RT ventilation worked well for me when keeping the speed down to...

Re: Varying mileage in varying temperatures
Just thought I would add my observations, 2010 air-cooled. Ride it throughout the year and pretty well the same journey in similar traffic conditions. The air temperature range has been during the commutes, 34c to -10c, hottest was a run down to Lucca in Italy when it hit 38c. I used to watch the fu...

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
From my experience they usually put all the spare bits in a BMW bag and leave it in the topbox ^-^

Re: How many RT LC owners actually have problems / issues?
Hi, interested to read the note from Cleverbee about the competency of the local dealer to strip the engine down. Have to take into account an assembly line does not have all the messy bits of liquids and used parts, whereas a local dealer is used to it hopefully. I am always impressed when watching...

Re: 2012 Twin Cam - Service Costs
Hi, this might seem a silly question, when you do the service yourself what happens to the service book? It seems a lot of weight is put on this when reselling.

Re: Garmin, why the fascination with farm tracks?
I've been using a 660 and recently got a Nav V, and before that a car version. The car only went a bit bonkers on two occasions, first time was when leaving the covered car park after entering the destination coming out of Geneva Airport with no signal it went a bit off and we accidentally entered a...

Re: Tie down points when using a trailer
Watching the delivery guys at the dealers loading the bikes they always put them on the side stand on full lock and pull down to it. The only difference I notice is if they use a unit with tyre tracks in which the front wheel locks in place and they pull down both sides. My challenge, getting the RT...

[size=15px]Photo op with Peter Hickman, a thoroughly nice chap, Road and British Superbike rider for BMW (don't know how he folds himself up on the bike to hit 200mph) at the 10th anniversary at Bahnstormer BMW Mottorrad, great bbqs, coffee and a few bikes thrown in as well by Alistair. Re: Gerbing or similar heated clothing
My Rukka, with the thermal insert in, usually works for me, the trip to work usually means I have a T, shirt and thin wool jumper. This has been enough at minus 10, being the coldest. Had to put the grips to max, although that did take about 10 miles before they became useful. Only problem was stopp...
