IMHO whilst many may use a Smartphone instead of a dedicated SatNav, it's a bit like saying that because a Smartphone has a camera you don't need a DSLR anymore. Some may not, but they aren't the same thing.

I have free play on both panniers and also the top box - in fact much more than the Givi luggage on my old TDM. However, its worked fine to Italy and back and to the Dordogne last year, plus around the UK, my friend's 2009 was exactly the same so I wouldn't be in the least concerned.

I have a 2007 also. I wired direct to the battery via a fused connection. Benefit - it doesn't go off when you are plotting a route with the ignition off!

They are actually the cam covers not the cylinder heads so they won't get as hot as you might think

I'm wouldn't be surprised if it's some devious plan to keep traffic speeds down - damn dangerous though and typical of this short-sighted government. Clearly, doing 35 in a 30 is more dangerous than being hit my someone swerving to avoid a pothole.
