Re: For sale AGAIN - Russell Cycle Products Day-Long seats for 2014-2021 RT

Previous buyer has withdrawn (nothing to do with my seats!) so the seats are up for sale again. If no takers in the next couple of days they'll go on ebay. Thanks for looking.

Re: Test rides

I agree, it does seem unreasonable. A quick search online verifies your view that the claim profile for the over 70s remains low compared with most other age groups. So the refusal to allow test rides on the grounds of insurance risk seems flakey but, if the dealer can't get insurance cover, who's t...

For sale AGAIN - Russell Cycle Products Day-Long seats for 2014-2021 RT

Previous buyer has withdrawn (nothing to do with my seats!) so again I can offer for sale in the UK, a pair of RCP Day-Long heated seats, manufactured June 2020 for my R1250RT although will fit any 2014 onwards RT. I guess they have about 3000 miles use. They are in excellent condition. No marks, sc...

My bad, I didn't read your post properly and thought it was a random link to an advert. Sorry. Good luck with the sale.

Re: High seat

For anybody who hasn't seen it before there's a tool that calculates the impact of various changes to the riding position. It's called cyclo-ergo.com Select your bike, enter your height etc, and play with seat height, footrest height and so on to see how the knee angle changes. The bigger the number...

Re: Heated seat on an LC RT

My experience with an early 2014 wethead RT might throw some light on the matter. I had to complain that the seat was virtually burning my behind. In response to my complaint the dealer told me he ran a software update, and after that the seat barely got warm enough, at least in my opinion it wasn't...

Re: Cleaning The Exhaust Pipes

I soooo don't enjoy polishing header pipes that I ordered my new 1250 without chrome exhaust. I'd much rather use fine wire wool and Solvo Autosol on stainless steel headers.

Imagine my 'joy' when I collected the bike and found it came with a non-chrome silencer but still chrome headers. Grr...

Re: Here we go - 1250 Calliper issues

I came across a comparison of the 1200 and 1250 GS. The tester found the 1250 needed another 3 metres to stop from 70 mph. Although the review comes with a number of caveats, e.g. not the same tyres or exactly the same model of GS, it isn't a ringing endorsement for the new brakes. https://www.benne...

Re: RT Stripes.

Do tell once you've found it. Too late for me to change my choice of Mars Red but I'll have fun kicking myself if it turns out I could have gone for white with cool pinstripes for the same money.

Re: Retirement

Since I will be based in France, I wonder if it would benefit me to buy and register the bike in the UK, at least until it comes time to re-register? Take it from a fellow expat, registering a vehicle in France is a costly exercise. Conversely, if you continue to rely on your UK insurance take care ...

Re: 500+ mile days.

Like many of us I've endured the 500 miles in a day as a means to get home a day earlier. For me, the way to survive is frequent stops of 10 minutes taken maybe every hour and a half, enjoying brief drinks and nibbles. The little and often approach helps with the discomfort of old bones and loss of ...

Re: Gearchange Assist

I admit my 'real biker' comment was a tease. We all have our likes and dislikes, and as I get older I am more questioning about some of the bling we are offered. Take chrome header pipes. Theres nothing new here but why do they exist? I'm happier with stainless steel, some wire wool and a little Sol...
