Thanks Bruce & David, I'll check the fittings on my RT. 

I looked at a friends F850GA recently.  It had a semi-circular 'plate' attached to the forks near the lower yolk (triple tree) presumably to reduce wind and/or road noise going up through the gap in front of the tank. I want to make a similar system for my R1250RT but can't find out whether...
