Re: Lock removal tool

I just used this tool to remove the lock cylinder on my 2012 top box. I had lost the only key I had, as it wasn’t keyed to my ignition.
The tool worked well, I had the cylinder out in about a minute.

Staying dry in rain, 2012 RT seat

Not sure if this common but I’ve tried several brands of rain pants without luck. My current Olympia pants, which I assumed are top quality, leaked at the crotch during a 100 mile run through steady rain. They held out rain for about 30 minutes. I’ve noticed my 2012 RT seat seems to accumulate a pud...

Re: Poll of Brake Pads

A full set of double sintered EBC, front and rear, equaled price of just one disc worth of BMW's. Seems to stop just as well.

Re: optimate 4 Can Bus fitting broke off

I never heard of any problems with Optimates either. It figures I probably got a defective plug. The thing came apart so easily.

Re: optimate 4 Can Bus fitting broke off

That’s what I’m doing, I just wondered if anyone else has had this happen to their unit.
Worst case, I could splice a new Can Bus connector on myself.

optimate 4 Can Bus fitting broke off

I've been using my Opimate 4 this winter to keep my battery in top shape.  I just bought this Opimate in October 2018. When I pulled the plug out of the bike socket today, half the fitting stayed in the bike socket!  I got it out but it will not snap back together at all. ...

Re: New Owner with questions on Lights

Check your headlight adjustment. My 2012 was WAY off  when I bought it used.  First, the manual adjustment knob should be turned all the way UP. Careful though, Do not force the knob, you can  break the adjustment lever if you twist it too far. Then you can set the low beam...

Spark Plug Change

What's the minimum panel removal required to change spark plugs on 2012 RT?
Front trim panel and engine spoilers, plus the small covers over the lower plugs?

Re: transmission sight glass?

If a transmission oil sight glass was fitted as in the video, this would be on the RHS of the bike. Plus, it wouldn't be seen without removing the lower fairing panel. Yes, the trans oil glass is in fact on the right side.  You can see it between the panels by looking towards the rear and ...

transmission sight glass?

I just noticed a smaller oil sight glass aft of the engine oil glass on the left side. It's not mentioned my owners manual. Is this a transmission oil glass? aftermarket perhaps?

Lost my small tailbag straps.

Ok, I can’t believe this happened, but I lost my straps for my small tailbag. A consequence of keeping my bike at my brother’s garage. I got home and can’t find them anywhere in the bag where I always keep them after rides. We search the garage and roadway pretty thoroughly. Anyone know a source or ...

Re: Oil seeps from valve cover bolt

Don't see why the offending (front) bolt/bush cannot be removed & the bush replaced. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. https://farm7.static.flickr.com/6043/6266702221_76ff68732f_b.jpg Interesting that the Haynes Manual says, "Check the condition of the cover bolt sealing grommets. If they a...

Re: High beam bulb orientation -2012

OK. I figured out the problem.  (A)Tab definitely should face UP. (B)The real issue is keeping the bulb centered exactly while simultaneously clipping it in. It helps to have an assistant watch from the front of the headlight housing. It's very easy for the bulb to slip out of position. Cor...

Re: High beam bulb orientation -2012

Well my hi-bulb never seems to sit correctly.  On cars bulbs always fit in tight and secure in the housing prior to any final lock down.  This thing sits loosely in the hole until you clip it down.
Just doesn't seem right. Not like something the Germans would design.
