BMW 'Summer Rain' gloves, XL

These are an XL, although I've snipped the overly-large labels off. They're definitely not a winter glove as they're not that thick, but are good as a 3-season one - I've worn them with silk liners underneath for extra warmth. I can confirm their full waterproofness! In good condition, visor-wipe on...

Re: 2011 R12RT - Fuel level?

Hi Bruce. Most of us have a hard-earned degree in cocking things up....I've got a doctorate in it!  :alas: The gauge takes a while to register the actual content - ie when I fill mine from, say, half a tank to full, it takes a while for the gauge to change its reading....I'm perhaps half a ...

***SOLD***2013 RT SE, under 10k miles.

It's with a heavy heart that I'm advertising this lovely bike, but, after my collision earlier this year with an HGV, I've decided to hang up my boots. First registered to BMW, this bike was bought straight from the showroom by the chap I got it from back in July. It's done under 10k miles - no corr...

Re: new member and a request for a survey

Hi Robbert.
Yes, it was me. No photos available, sorry- the bike was written off in France a few years ago....just after I'd spent a fortune having the shift refurbished!

Re: “NEW” 2011 RT, question on oil level sight window

"You could do this at the filler hole, using a clear flexible hose and sucking it up and emptying it into a clean container, or the messier way of the oil drain plug". I simply took the filter off on the one occasion, many years ago, when I overfilled my ST. There's not much extra oil tha...

Re: “NEW” 2011 RT, question on oil level sight window

Hmmmmm.....again!  :) There are numerous cases of owners overfilling with oil, this very thread may well be another! If I drain my engine when it's cold, and feel free to ask me how I know this(!), I get a certain amount of oil out. If I drain it when it's hot, I get that same amount + x ou...

Re: “NEW” 2011 RT, question on oil level sight window

The point i am making is that the oil cooler and the rest of the engine will empty if its cold or hot, just at a different rate, whether that is relevant or useful is up to whomever, but it is factual nonetheless. The notion that oil is locked away somehow, isn't. The horizontal part is very import...

Re: “NEW” 2011 RT, question on oil level sight window

Cold thick gloopy oil will stick to everything, every crevice especially with horizontal cylinders - if there is no oil pressure moving it on then it will lurk all around the motor including the cooler. Warm thinned oil is much more compliant with gravity. The LC method is the same. I would also su...

Re: “NEW” 2011 RT, question on oil level sight window

Thermostat will only control flow to the cooler, not from it. Hmmmm. It might not 'control' oil coming from it, but when the engine's properly hot, the thermostat is open.....switch off, filter and drain plug removed.....thermostat's still open, oil drains out of engine and cooler I would've though...

Re: new member and a request for a survey

Hi Robert.
I would have completed the survey, as I had a bike with the failure.....but you forgot to list the R1200ST!  :)

Just in case anyone else has forgotten the ST.......

Re: “NEW” 2011 RT, question on oil level sight window

Did you make sure that the engine was up to the correct operating temperature before the oil change? By that, I mean did you go for a run out beforehand? It's generally held that simply letting the bike run whilst stationary won't get it hot enough - most owners haven't got the patience! - which mea...

Re: Newbie stupid questions...

I'd think it was the switch playing up - the earlier Jap-style switch clusters are well known for failing. I believe the cable from it runs under the fuel tank, meaning that has to come off so you can unplug the switch - it certainly did on my earlier RT that had the paddle indicators. It's not that...

Re: no neutral

Early wc models were fitted with a 'thrust adapter' (BMW-speak for the clutch pushrod) that was manufactured out of spec - it was too short! Bikes up to production date 15/7/2014 may well have it fitted, and it could give the problem you have, although I believe general gearchange quality would be a...

Unused ESA connector? Unused heated seat connector? Is it 'factory' wiring?
