Re: BMW Repair Manuals DVD problem

Thanks. I'm required to have Symantec AV software on these computers. I have been able to whitelist Repair_Manuals.exe on Symantec, and everything is working fine. A heuristic detection means that the AV software thinks the file may be malicious without actually matching a specific database pattern....

Re: BMW Repair Manuals DVD problem

I've been running the Repair_Manuals.exe file for 4-5 months without trouble. Symantec updates its definition files all the time, including this past Friday/Saturday when the problem first showed up. For now, the fix has been to uninstall Symantec, and replace it with another antivirus program. With...

BMW Repair Manuals DVD problem

I make frequent use of the BMW Repair Manuals software to work with my 2006 BMW R1200RT. Out of nowhere yesterday, the Symantec antivirus software on my Windows computer flagged the main file "REPAIR_MANUALS.EXE" as a Heuristic Virus Risk, and deleted it from my computer. I have tried mult...

Re: Heated Grip Repair

Thanks. That's very helpful. I did not realize the heated grip was the same as that for the R1150GS.

Heated Grip Repair

My bike is a 2006 R1200RT. The left (clutch side) heated grip is not working. I've seen posts online for fixing this issue for an R1200GS, but the design of the GS grip is slightly different compared to the RT. Will the same procedure used for the GS also work for the RT. Basically, when the fault i...

Re: Surging, Fuel Starvation, 2006 R1200RT

I checked into this problem this past weekend. For the vent valve, the valve and canister had been removed by a previous owner, so that explains the vent valve malfunction code. The fuel pump controller appeared to be original, and I replaced that with a new one. Rode the bike 52 miles yesterday, an...

Re: Surging, Fuel Starvation, 2006 R1200RT

I've opened the fuel cap several times after this happened. There never appeared to be any vacuum. My plan now is to clear the fault codes and see what comes back. At a minimum, I think I will need to replace the fuel pump controller which should arrive in the mail today.

Re: Surging, Fuel Starvation, 2006 R1200RT

Very helpful. Thanks. My bike is actually attached to a sidecar so, as suggested further down in the ADV Rider post, it could be that the charcoal canister was removed and the valve disconnected. This weekend, I'll take the side panel off and have a look. I do wonder if the Tank Vent issue is in som...

Re: Surging, Fuel Starvation, 2006 R1200RT

Check with GS-911 reveals: 3 fault codes found: 10167    Output stage to Electric Fuel Pump faulty (Most likely: Fuel pump electronics/driver) The fault is not present now. 10168    Electric Fuel Pump System faulty The fault is not present now. 10098  &am...

Re: Surging, Fuel Starvation, 2006 R1200RT

Thos symptoms could well be indicative of coil failure. They tend to break down and give intermittent symptoms, as you describe, although I've had one that simply failed as I switched off the engine after a fault-free ride and manifested itself at the next start-up a few days later. Try revving the...

Surging, Fuel Starvation, 2006 R1200RT

My bike is a 2006 R1200RT with 48,000 miles I’ve been having a problem over the past few days that was at first intermittent, but now seems to be almost full-time. The engine acts as if it is not getting fuel. Initially it will start and run OK, but then, after riding anywhere from 1-50 miles, it w...

BMW Service Manual Designation

I purchased a copy of the CD for BMW Service for R1200RT. I find it excellent and very helpful. I'm a little confused by what seems to be repetition in the links to service and inspection schedules. If one hits the Maintenance Instructions button on the front page and then enters the bike's specific...

Yes. I understand what you are saying. I think that is a good idea. I will definitely try that.

Re: 2006 R1200RT Bent Front Fairing Bracket

Thanks. I agree. That is what I'm hoping. Of course, knowing when it is back the way it should be may be difficult to tell without putting everything back on it.
