Re: Metzler Roadtech 1

UPDATE Have dumped the R-01SE series as the RT with electronic suspension rides poorly with that rather flexible tyre...it felt like the suspension was 'getting it all wrong' until I changed to a HWM construction tyre.    Went with Bridgestone T31 GT (= HWM) and it was a huge relie...

Re: R1250 RT 2018 VS 2021 Standard version

Remember that the 2021-on bikes have the steering set at a steeper (quicker-reacting) angle, by a massive 1.5 degrees.  To quote a friend who has had several RT's "At the first corner I nearly threw it in the hedge!"

Re: Which Baglux tank bag fits the RT?

I'd like to know that too, Steve, as I still have a good bag lounging around from a previous bike.  My understanding so far is that on the water boxer RT's the bag winds up sitting at a steep angle on the rear face of the 'tank hump' and clashes with my well-fed six-pack...

Re: Fitting Cyclops LED headlight conversion

Update in March 2022.
Cyclops lights have been faultless and remain the 'best bang for your buck' change I have made to the bike.

And I have not needed to go back in there (ouch) to change any bulbs in 25,000 miles...

Re: New seat for 2021 RT

I have run a Sergeant seat on my 2019 RT 1250 for last 7,000 miles, and for me its far better than stock.    At over £400 it seemed pricey, but it works for me. Whilst the std seat (I use the standard seat in High position) is fine for...

Re: Numb Bum

After only 10,000 miles I gave up on the standard thickness BMW rider seat,  It's a shame that this premium tourer has a seat I cant cope with...so I bought a Sargent https://www.sargentcycle.co.uk/acatalog/r1200rt-2014-front-seat-only.html It felt pricey [ £434 incl heating ] but the diffe...

Yup, another fan here of the Avant fender extension.  Beautifully made and it is fit-and-forget without drilling the mudguard, and it does not wiggle or fall off.
Keeps the crud off the front engine case...

Re: Front disc rattle

Recommend you squirt some solvent into each bobbin-washer assembly and give them a tug (by hand not with a mallet) back and forth to clear out accumulated brake dust material.  When I ran an oilhead 1100S this reduced odd symptoms of apparently warped discs, and returned brake feel when it ...

Re: Anyone improved on RTlc air filter yet?

Reckon I have found an easier answer, pattern filters by Sprint Filter, who supply polyester filter models for many BMWs including the Wet-Heads. These long-life filters for road use do not use oil and are cleaned with low pressure air alone; they offer greater effectiveness than oiled cotton, yet s...

Re: Metzler Roadtech 1

Another fan of Roadtec 01 here.  Used them on KTM 1190 [on which the OEM Conti Trail Attack tyres had already hugely impressed me] and found grip levels raised, and twitchiness over ridges and white lines.  Massively encouraging -I'd say near-perfect - response to adding power thro...

Anyone improved on RTlc air filter yet?

When I ran an R1100s a huge improvement in torque was cheaply made by fitting a massive K&N air filter meant for a truck.  I had already run the K&N sold for that model, and found the gain to be small. P icture here of the 'Val Singleton' v standard K&N - that nearly filled the ...

Re: Lincolnshire Wolds

I’d love to join you as the roads are great there😊 and often pop up from Suffolk to play Dohh! practice.  However I’m tied up elsewhere, so not this time.

Be sure to ride Market Rasen - Wragby - Horncastle; and B1225 from N of Horncastle to Caistor...have fun!

Re: Oldtimers service what a joke !!

I bought one direct from Oldtimers in March and was delighted by quick service, so let’s hope this is simply a blip.  Unit was a doddle to fit, and works really well. And if they can’t fulfil the order direct, Nippy Normans (who take pride in speedy delivery) list this now... htt...

Fitting Cyclops LED headlight conversion

Having run the Cyclops conversion on my KTM 1190 Adventure - a paint-blistering improvement on a performance bike badly let down by lousy lights, I wanted to do the same on a recently acquired 1250RT. Thanks to Mike Bines at Sportouring.co.uk for promptly supplying the kit.  It took a while...

Re: The Motorcyclist's Guide to Scotland

Mine arrived yesterday and I'm delighted. Its a great book, and although I go to Scotland on the bike every year, I have already spotted several 'Must Go There' places in between the ones I knew about.  Its going to be vital touring equipment! Quick delivery and John Fergusson signed it too...
