Re: Independent Workshops
I pay £35 per month x 7 for an Insured Warranty (inc. roadside assistance etc.), my excess is £100. The upcoming switch replacement is likely to be around £300 - £400, I'll have broken even this year. It's like any insurance, you pay it in the hope you don't need it. I wouldn't own a BMW motorcycle...

Re: Independent Workshops
I plan to do as much as I possibly can and a dealer or independent do as little as possible I am trying to weigh up the cost of dealer/independent service vs the value of the warranty which is very hard as you just don't know if anything will go wrong and what it will cost This was my first service ...

Re: Independent Workshops
My understanding is that whilst a bike is under a new, used or insured (extended) warranty, service work can be completed by any VAT registered garage. However, remedial warranty work needs to be done at a BMW dealer. I'm having a handlebar combination switch replaced at a dealer under an Insured W...

Re: Independent Workshops
Exactly, even if you have a warranty, BMW allow you to go 1 month or 1,000 miles over the next service due date/mileage. Or, go to The Workshop at York, it'll be cheaper and nearer. I still haven't decided what I am going to do as yet! I picked the bike up in June from Allen Jefferies obviously wit...

Re: Independent Workshops
My bike supplied by Allan Jefferies turns 5 in October so if I wait till after the registration date I get a cheaper service than doing it before the registration date :))David. wrote:
Allan Jefferies have confirmed that their labour rate is still £66 + VAT per hour for bikes 5 or more years old.

Re: Hello!
Just got myself a 2016 model too with all the bells and whistles but I came from a big Jap company!
I had the FJR1300
The RT is lightyears ahead in my opinion

Re: Fuel grade
From what I've "Googled", the additives seem to be a top secret cocktail mix to improve MPG which clearly works. Other claims about engine cleanliness seem a bit OTT. When was the last time you decoked a 4 stroke engine. Then there is the supposedly environmental impact. Thats interesting...

Re: Fuel grade
When it comes to MPG, I'd agree that Tesco vs BP gives less MPG. As previously posted, a test on my RT gave 5 MPG better with BP vs Tesco. However, at what cost, most recently, Tesco was 20p/litre cheaper than BP at a motorway service area. I totally agree with what you are saying and I have said i...

Re: Fuel grade
There is a lot of people worrying about E10 and god knows why! E5 will continue to be available in super unleaded form The only stipulation with me is that I don't use supermarket fuels! I noticed years ago that my cars MPG was significantly lower when using Tesco fuel There is a bit of a write up h...

Re: Modifications and/or Accessories
This definition seems simple enough to understand. An accessory is generally part of your motorcycle which is not directly related to how it works. A modification is therefore changes to your machine that change the performance and / or handling of your motorbike Heres one for you then! Tyres! Modi...
