Connecting a top case is a major PITA. The pictures show what to connect to. Don't bother to try and find the proper male connector for it. It is unobtanium. Find an appropriate male and female after market connector and wire it in. Good luck

That cubbyhole has never worked for me on my bike. The hole, itself, is too small for my smartphone. I just run a charge cable to my phone's bar mount.

That sound is not normal. You should investigate and find the source. Mine makes no noticeable sound at all, at any speed.

You must have disconnected something. I have removed that plastic numerous time with no issues.
Could be a fuse.

I like your picks, but a word of caution. In Urban areas in the US, those hotels maybe sketchy. In those areas, cheap hotels are magnets for drugs and crime.
