Re: New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

So I created this thread 3 months ago about getting a new Sport Touring bike.  Long story short - bought a new '22 GS Adventure with factory Low Suspension.  The ergonomics were really the biggest factor - I just like a more upright position of the GSA better than the RT. ...

Re: Engine cutting out during shifting

As mentioned, quickshifters are designed such that you are to maintain consistent throttle opening when upshifting without using the clutch - I'm guessing you know this.  As far as cutting power, I had that happen on my track bike with an aftermarket quickshifter and discovered that after u...

Re: Transport Ohio to Las Vegas....Reviews are Scary!!!

I've had 2 different bikes shipped at two different times from a dealer to me by https://motorcycleshippers.com/ without issue.

A friend had a bike shipped to him across country by https://haulbikes.com/ without issue.

Re: New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

Damn you and your list of valid points simbo!  Had to google 'sarnie' as i had no idea.  LOL So, is the better wind protection on the RT mostly above waist, or are the legs protected significantly better as well?  Puig make a tall windscreen for the GS that has good review...

Re: New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

I was wrong about the RT fuel tank size.  Per the BWM website the 2022 RT has a 25 liter tank.  The 1250GS has a 20 liter tank, and the 1250GSA has a 30 liter tank.  The new Triumph 1200 GT Pro Explorer also has a 30 liter tank.

Re: New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

Thanks Levisp, your posts are on-point with the issues to consider. My thinking is that I have twisties riding well covered with my other bikes, the US roads I would likely ride with an RT are paved and generally in a good state of condition, and having owned a 450cc Husqvarna Enduro and gotten off-...

Re: Which motorcycle manufacturer is best - A FortNine video

The other thing that it says to "me" is to do the first oil change as early as possible, regardless of manufacturer recommendations.  I know many will argue with this so to each his own.

HA!  So should I be afraid to ask?  Why is the GS better than a RT for street-only sport touring?

Re: How many have you owned?

First one, 2012 RT.  Not sure if it's my last. Quirky antiquated engineering is not my thing.  But it is fairly comfortable and lightweight for two up touring. Only road bike I've owned that burns oil like a city bus and left me stranded on a trip. Yikes.  How many miles ...

Re: New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

Thanks for the comments about the boxer engine.  One of the things I really enjoy about different motorcycles is the unique character of each engine.  I currently have a 500cc 1-cylinder, a 961cc parallel twin, a 800cc triple, and a 1100cc V4.  I've had a couple of Ducati ...

Re: New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

Thanks guys.  I read that Telelever is adept at keeping the front tire contact patch more consistent than conventional forks, which makes sense as to why it feels so planted.  @Levisp, when you say that most people find the motor more of a challenge, could you elaborate?  ...

Re: New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

Thanks @Levisp.  Yeah after looking at the Multistrada V4 fuel economy it looks like range would be poor for sport touring which is a factor for me. The weather protection on the RT is an attractive quality for me.  The adventure style bikes all lack a bit in that area comparativel...

New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

Hey all. Been riding sport and naked bikes doing track days and short rides for about 20 years. Looking at getting a bike I can do some longer distance on. Had a 450cc enduro and got the dirt out of my system so really just looking for street bike rather than dual/adventure bike. Considering new R12...
