Thunder & Lightning

Well that's the good weather over in my cormer of Shropshire. The dots are lightning strikes in the half and hour or so, plus of course the accompanying rain.

Not an answer to your problem, but it's worth reading the artice in the link below as it gives an insight into the tech battle going on.

Re: Trim Pieces for 1250RT panniers

Not actually your answer, but it is doable as this post from '23 for a repair shows the panniers with the trims taken off. https://www.1200rt.com/viewtopic.php?t=7583 This link shows the pannier lid only, but more importantly what looks like locator holes where the trim 'clips' to the lid. https://w...

Re: Ford Cambelt/water pump cost

Considering you can buy a DIY changing kit for just under a hundred quid (incl VAT), and even allowing for genuine Ford parts being more, that's a lot of labour charges. https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/water-pump-timing-belt-kit-10553/ford/focus/focus-iii/107885-1-5-tdci Given the age of the car...

Re: What do you consider lugging the engine?

Just to add to the what do you consider lugging debate. Given the Wales is my backyard and I'm pretty used the 20mph zones and my 1250 will quite happily sit in 3rd gear at 20mph and equally happily to accelorate cleanly from there if called do so. It'll also sit at 20 in 4th, but that IS starting t...

Re: What do you consider lugging the engine?

This is true to a point. But it all depends on the engine. It's OK like a tourer, but wrong on a sports bike. They are better, more up the rev range. And that's one of the reasons I particularly like my 1250RT, it pulls like the Queen Mary. Compare the two torque curves below, (both back wheel on a...

Re: Con or Not

Go with your gut feeling. - Anyone who buys a car unseen and at more than the going rate sounds suspicious to me. Also you did the right thing about no sending him a copy of the V5. Appart from the fact it opens the car details up to cloning, it also verifies your details to the cons and that could ...

Re: Which fuel

My local Tescos is currently:- Unleaded £1.279 vs Super Unleaded £1.359. That makes the posh stuff near enough 6.4% more expensive.

So, does anyone who's measured it get a 6.4% or better increase in MPG?

Re: Which fuel

Hmmm, yesterday I filled up with 93 octane for $3.19/US gallon, so about $.85 per liter. So, about .76 pounds UK, or .88 Euro per liter. So, gas here is about half the price of gas in the UK. Bigger difference than I thought. Our price includes $.44/gallon state and federal tax. In the UK there is ...

Re: Which fuel

Essar Grindley Brook? That's the one, but I filled up on Sunday at Nesscliffe (which is also Essar) I was all but passing the door. There's also a Essar station just up the road from me (Cross Houses) but it's an expensive one. I can't remember the exact price from when I drove past yesterday but i...

Re: Which fuel

I've used premium grade & standard graded fuels in both bikes & cars, petrols & diesels and frankly I’ve never noticed any difference. I’m sure the science behind the manufacturers claims is sound, but to me the seat of the pants feeling is no different and my memory doesn’t recall me wa...

R1250RT - Sheriffs Dept Test

Not exact light reading, but below is a link to an appraisal of the 2022 R1250RT-P Vs a Yamaha FJR1300P and two HDs for police patrol use. Not unreasonably they take a different approach to the normal magazine road test, but nonetheless it's an interesting read and taken from a different perspective...
