Re: Stator on 1200/1250 😱

My 1200rt was built in june 2014 according to the OEM catalogue. According to some reports the new design stators were fitted after early 2014 . I imagine BMW would use up stock of the early rotors until they ran out, so I presume my bike has not got the later unit. Would BMW guarantee which unit is...

Re: How to look stupid

I can run that a very close second. There is a smallish roundabout near to me with a nasty incline on one side. I had stopped in heavy traffic behind an old bus. The bus pulled off so I followed. The bus then stopped abruptly, which forced me to stop as well. My old K100 brakes were grabby at the be...

Re: From the dark side...

I too travelled from the world of the k100. My 1987 k100 LT was a great bike, had two.
The heat from the tank was lovely in winter, but the biggest improvement was modern braking. Twin pot Brembo brakes on my 15 plate are astonishing.

Re: Who locks their bikes up for the winter?

I have ridden all year ever since I started riding. As I got older, the bikes some how became adorned with full fairings. My latest has heated everything, they say you feel the cold more when you get older. I still miss my k100lt heated fuel tank. Greasy Barbour wax jacket, white socks outside of th...

Re: Sat Nav eject button sticking

Why did bmw choose to use plastic screws on the bottom of the sat nav cradle cover?

Do they have plastic nuts behind, and can you use metal fasteners instead?

Might grind down a suitable size phillips screwdriver to get them out.

Re: Pannier Handle fails to lock

I presume the two pieces the guy removed were the end stops.

My handles do not close when they are removed , it does not bother me enough to strip them .

Aesthetically you would prefer the handles to close once they are off the bike .

I guess someone at BMW design might know the reason.

Re: Hi-Viz vests

I have worn a yellow high viz jacket and a yellow helmet for years now. Do I think it makes any difference? . not sure, though an ability to "read the body language " of those around you helps. I find the most dangerous time is "going home" time, people take a few miles to get in...

Re: Can it be done?

A lot of guys on the k100 forum found a mid range increase in power by fitting throttle bodies from the k1100, even from the k1200. I did this too, used the original injectors but had to feck around with the throttle cable. The difference was noticeable. My bike is wet head, it has enough power for ...

Re: On the horn

There was not enough room to fit a second k100 horn, so a Denali bomb will eventually be an addition at some point, obviously the Bmw bean

counters have either never ridden a bike, or they found a job lot inside some Christmas crackers.

We pay enough for the bikes these days..

Re: On the horn

My 2015 rt had the crap standard horn which I swapped for the higher tone from a k100 .

This is louder , but I could not manage to fit both horns from the k100 which sounded like a fog horn.

How does the later models fit twin horns?

Re: at least it broke down on my driveway....

I saw that video too.

The old one is in the bin, not worth the risk though it might seem prudent to carry a new spare .

My old k100 would be laughing her head off..

Re: at least it broke down on my driveway....

Hi David, I presume the grease is for ease of removal, although I do remember reading some where about applying grease to high tension wires/caps to stop "arcing" , but it was a long time ago and I am no sparky so I have no idea whether it was correct or not. It was odd that mine "fai...

Re: at least it broke down on my driveway....

Bought a new stick coil from Pidcocks £114.00) . Unsure which cylinder is No 1, I started her up to see which cylinder stayed cold, and hey ho, engine light went out and she ran on both. Found these quotes https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/which-side-is-cylinder-1.1143778/ Assumption is the mother ...
