Re: Caveat emptor Chinese products

In reality, all crash bars, even expensive Wunderlich, are only useful for static or very low speed falls, so installing cheaper Chinese rip-offs shouldn't make much difference in that regard. But where I have learnt to be very cautious is using Ali Parts where the item will be subjected to signific...

Re: BMW parts on Aliexpress

Since these screws are for panel attachment it is unlikely there would ever be a problem with seizing up or being overtightened. Low torque install application. However, if I were looking at load bearing bolts say M10 or M12 I wouldn't go near AliExpress. Chinese not renowned for adhering to specifi...

Re: Blue smoke after a drop

Not unusual for any four stroke engine which has been put on its side to allow a small amount of oil past the rings. Real common with lawnmowers put on their side to clean underneath. I presume it was only on its side for a short time? The oil will burn off and you shouldn't have any ongoing smoking...

Re: Foot peg lowering kit for RT

I just received my BMW Hight Seat which I ordered as an extra with the original bike deal. After fitting that, adding a lambskin seat cover on top, and having lowered the foot pegs already.... I finally have an ideal riding position for my 190cm/6'4" height (86.4cm/34" inseam). Of course t...

Re: Intermittent Background Chime

I have confirmed that the chime is indeed the wireless charging kicking in and out. Removing the iphone case eliminated the issue but alas the wireless charging capacity is insufficient to keep the phone fully charged when streaming maps to the TFT. I too have resorted to a USB charging cable.

Re: Foot peg lowering kit for RT

That is the exact same kit and supplier I used, and the brake lever lowering plate fitted perfectly and the peg lowering brackets were a nice piece of kit. The only issue as I posted elsewhere is the large grub screw that helps hold the new bracket tightly in place is too long by about 5mm and has t...

Re: Does the GPS/TFT System Accept MyRoute-app Routes?

I have been reluctant to do that as I understand the kill switch is meant for emergency stops. I watched a video where the reviewer got it to work properly for a 4 hour ride including auto restarting after a long stop. One of the things he stressed was that every item in the “permissions” options of...

Re: Does the GPS/TFT System Accept MyRoute-app Routes?

Seems others are having more success than me. I have a 2023 model R1250RT with the TFT navigation and inbuilt phone wireless charging compartment. The compartment only just big enough for my iPhone 14 Pro but more disappointing that I have to remove my phone case otherwise it won’t charge. I think t...

Re: Hill start control issue

Thanks. Your factual approach to understanding it is far better than my speculation. It works pretty well most of the time but I think it’s important not to expect it to always hold firmly on even the steepest slopes. It is an aid and not fail safe.

Re: Hill start control issue

Does anyone know the mechanics of how this Hill Assist works? I have done about 1500Km on my 2023 1250RT and use this a lot as I live in a hilly suburb. On one occasion on a particularly steep slope at traffic lights I noticed that if I pushed ever so slightly with both feet on the ground, the bike ...

Re: Hill Start Control

The main "trick" I have found is that you have to pull the brake lever quite hard. If the H symbol hasn't come on then squeeze a little harder until it does. Very predictable and reliable. On take off I have learnt to give that little bit extra throttle as the clutch starts to bite. Takes ...

Re: Footpeg removal problem

If the lowering kit is the Wunderlich or typical Ali Express type then it consists of an additional cast block that is held in place by the original pivot pin, and the new casting has a new pivot pin. Removing the new pivot pin should be straight forward and will release the peg and spring from the ...

Re: WiFi Phone Charging

I think this is a limitation of the charging bay rather than a fault. I had virtually no success with my iPhone 14 pro until I did all of the following. 1 removed the case 2 removed the rubber and nylon lifting strap at the top of the compartment. 3 inserted the phone topdown on the left side of the...

Re: Foot peg lowering kit for RT

Wunderlich prices in general are in my view stratographic.

The same full kit from Ali express is about 20 Euro.

Another example is the aluminium strip windscreen mounting bracket for gopro camera. Wunderlich want A$240 and Ali Express $12. Both are quality products.

Re: WiFi Phone Charging

Thanks good advice. I tried removing the case again and the compartment lifting tab and yes it does charge when inserted top down only. The process of removing the case is too tedious for me plus the fiddly insertion and removal means I am more likely to drop the phone when doing it. Have ordered mi...
