Have spent some time with the new Sargent seat over the past few weeks, and I like it a lot. Well worth the money.

Re: Sargent seat
Received mine yesterday. Of course it was delivered an hour after I left for my ~200 mile club ride. Tried it today (about 40 miles on canyon roads) and seems good, but will need a longer trip to be sure. Since my RT had the OEM "high" seat and Sargent does not make an equivalent, mounted ...

Re: R1250RT Left side valve cover
Ouch. Don't know about clearance to the cams, but if the cover is indeed caved in I would not run the engine without replacing it.

Re: Sargent seat
Interesting. I have a Sargent on order, to replace the OEM high seat which is just not comfortable on longer rides. Don't seem to have the sliding problem with the OEM - hopefully the Sargent is similar in that regard. We will see.

Re: I think the R1250RT is for me, have I overlooked anything?
Don't forget the RT as an inbuilt seat lowering bracket. It literally is just a 30 second, no tools needed job to flip the bracket to the 'low' height side. If seat height is a concern get the dealer to change it to it's lower setting before going out for a test ride or look up how to do it yoursel...

Re: Exhaust Silencer
Thought about it too and decided to keep it stock. While the big chrome silencer looks awful on the R/RS, to me it's OK on the RT especially with the Triple Black colors.

Nelson-Rigg Defender Extreme cover, size XXL. Fits my RT with panniers and OEM top case perfectly.

Re: ilium motor guards
Very interesting. Had the exact same issue, plus two others: The right side engine bar bracket did not align with the lower mounting boss on the engine case (off by at least 5mm). One of the pannier guard bars did not fit on the mounting base lugs (bar shape was off by 2-3mm). Mounted the pannier gu...

Re: plastic emergency key
I keep it on the key ring with house and car keys, etc. in my jacket pocket. Bike main key fob is separate.

Re: Top box case
Probably because the designers did not expect it to be frequently removed and carried around. What with a wiring harness and all it’s not really a quick and clean process as with the panniers.

Re: San Diego to and from Los Angeles
Very nice looking RT. As a lifelong SoCal resident, must say I have never heard "lack of traffic" being used to describe the area.

Re: Plastic valve cover guards
It looks like they have prevented a fair bit of damage to the valve covers. I would keep them.
