Re: Where / how to buy a motorbike in Spain (Malaga area)

If you are relying on your Spanish residence and NIE, and are buying a Spanish bike with Spanish insurance, won't you also have to have a Spanish license? That's one of my concerns re taking up residence in Europe which we are thinking about - don't fancy starting the motorcycle license process all ...

Clutch reservoir mount for camera control & GPS sensor - 3D printed

The base is held in place very firmly by 8 x 8mm x 3mm (doubled stacked for extra strength so you only see the 4).  Can be lifted off for maintenance.

Re: Wheel balancing - a LOT of weight!

Thank you again - your posts are always helpful and frequently very detailed which is much appreciated. Since not everyone is on all possible related sites, I've found it often to be worthwhile posting in more than one place.  Usually, I remember to note that I've posted i...

Wheel balancing - a LOT of weight!

I've just changed the tires on my 2018 R1200RT.  A small group of friends bought a No Mar tire changing machine, which made the job surprisingly easy. I swapped somewhat tired Roadtec 01s for a pair of Road 5 GTs. Two things of note - these are the first tires I've seen that don't have any ...

Just use a pair of what BMW call pipe clamps, pn 32 72 8 532 971, item 9 here https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=58550&rnd=09082020 These allow you to use any screw-in mirror that has the right thread.  I have a pair of GS mirrors which work very well...

Re: Pay upfront, loan/HP or PCP

I don't understand some of these views. Investment returns are currently pretty decent and have been for a while apart from a serious nose dive a year or so ago. Bought a new car a three years ago - financed for 6 years at 0% interest, and we plan to keep it 8 years.  The cautiously investe...

Windscreen rake - have you tried any mods to change screen angle?

I understand that there are many screen options out there - I know, I've tried them all as my thinner wallet can attest - and none of them are perfect for me. My complaint is turbulence and that seems to be the result of excessive distanc...

WTB: Akrapovic slip-on for 2018 R1200RT

Must be in really excellent condition - normal use is fine but definitely no dents, dings etc.

Thanks!

Roadside repairs for newer bikes?

I've been revising tool kits recently and was thinking to myself that I carry all these tools - almost certainly too many - and have just about never used them. I'm considering eliminating just about everything except flat fixing solutions (including a small hammer for dented rims - a personal expe...

Re: Illium works Crash Bars

Had these fitted to my 2020 RT last week, just want everyone to know that the clearance on the right side is very tight.  I called illium works and they said it is normal and that they might rub on the fairing on some bikes. https://www.flickr.comhttps://live.staticflickr.com/65535/5060079...

Muffler replacement question... & removing Akrapovic sticker?

Thanks to some excessively high wind at the weekend, my RT, parked on its side stand, fell over and damaged an expensive list of parts including the muffler. The easy but painfully expensive option is simply to buy a new stock one.  The second possibility is to look for a pristine-and-perfe...

Re: Removing the front shock R1200RT?

Hi J-T-L, keep us posted as to what you think of the shock changes. I know when you pay a lot of money for something you may feel obliged to say it's good, but please try to be honest! For me, it shouldn't take much to improve the stock items as they are pretty poor in terms of suppleness on choppy...

Re: Removing the front shock R1200RT?

I'm replacing the stock shocks with Tractive ESA units from Ted Porter's beemershop. I've never liked the RT stock shocks and switching shocks on a previously owned GSA transformed the bikes overall ride-feel & handling from OK/liveable to absolute magic carpet ride. FAR better control and an en...

Re: Removing the front shock R1200RT?

On earlier one, as above belt cover off and careful manoeuvring. Book of words made it easy. Thanks for the reply. It was obviously a bit too late at night - I didn't realize that I was actually done.  All I have to do was remove the top bolt, jack the engine up a bit to extend the forks f...
