Re: Silver roundals

Nearly... I am at a loss as to where they came from. I have now replaced with the blue & white standard ones. Much nicer imo. :)

Re: ABS red warning light coming on intermittently

And therein lies the problem I have with the battery. This fault has never manifested within the first 20 minutes of riding, even on cold mornings further south. This leads me to think that the battery is still fine. I reset the error.... Now to wait for it to come back.

Re: ABS red warning light coming on intermittently

A yellow 6.7kg Motobatt MB51814 AGM battery is currently being used. This is a heavy battery compared to Lithium... Literally three times as heavy as a similar sized lithium battery I have here and almost ten times heavier than the lightweight lithium models. There is a worrying side to this... I do...

Lithium battery transition

2011 RT.... Has anyone had any luck finding a lithium compatible regulator /rectifier for this year model as 2013 onward seems to be well catered for?

Re: ABS red warning light coming on intermittently

Ok, have hooked up Motoscan and checked ABS errors. It says "Low Voltage" and "Rear sensor" so I guess the first step is to replace the lead acid battery with a lithium battery as putting up with losing my cruise control every three years seems a ridiculous proposition. Has anyon...

Re: Removal of all problem systems...

If it had anything peeled off it then why is "BMW" moulded into the surface.... You'd expect it to be a flat silver disk for a sticker to adhere to? Very odd. Also... my rant about the bike above... I should make it clear.: I absolutely love the engine and suspension and handling. I'd be t...

As requested. Upside down unfortunately. Front and back of badge shown:

Re: Removal of all problem systems...

Perhaps fix the problem and enjoy the ride. Er... That's problems... Plural. The ABS light has just been the straw that broke the camels back. Oh... that and having to pay for proper BMW badges as the fairing had very boring silver discs attached that interestingly had all the same mould m...

Removal of all problem systems...

Has anyone yet embarked upon a quest to make the R1200RT more like an Airhead to work on? I feel that removing all this BMW nonsense and starting with off-the-shelf systems would make the bike much friendlierto work on. Do I need to adjust my suspension electronically? NO. Do I need the constant err...

Re: ABS red warning light coming on intermittently

A short 150km ride later and the dreaded warning appeared about 120km into the trip. No apparent reason. I have since removed both front and rear sensors and cleaned and inspected the ABS cabling until it moves beyond the moving parts. There are no detectable anomalies. After reading many forum comm...

Re: Motoscan

Pricing on equivalent systems taken from eBay.... Motoscan unlimited + adaptor cable + interface = AU$188 GS911 unrestricted + adaptor cable = AU$655. The bluetooth connection between helmet and bike hasn't ever dropped out when riding so not sure that's an issue between interface and phone app duri...

Re: Is it worth it ?

I'd like to convert my (lowered) pillion pegs to main pegs with a rear set and give myself the full forward position I find very comfortable. Lying face first on the tank bag really makes best use of the cruise control. :)

Re: Motoscan

It looks like everyone uses the GS911 but it seems, of late, that this system is losing favour with the bmw community due to its cost and limited vin number memory. The motoscan software/cabling is cheaper by a factor of three and has no such limitation. Of course it seems to run on Android devices ...

Re: Rocker cover protection

My RT has been stationary-dropped by the previous owner. Next oil change I'm going to remove the covers, check & adjust cam timing and remove paint & polish the covers. I have done it to every bike I've owned to-date and if you polishto a high degree it is quite easy to maintain the polish a...

Re: ABS red warning light coming on intermittently

I rode 5 hours straight on the second day and not an ABS error to be seen. The ambient air temperature was lower for the second days ride, maybe this had an affect...?! I also rode through some mud on a road near Ayr left by the cane haulers which are carrying sugar cane to the mill. Perhaps some mu...
