Re: Exhaust Flow Control Valve (Twin Cam 2013)
I think I posted this before but this is a service I try to do once a year for this issue. I try to coordinate it with rear tire change as most of the work is done at that point and the flap is exposed.

Re: Why don't people post on here
I do find this forum fascinating and has a lot of good information. I am not sure on the RT versus GS but it could be true. I owned a 15 RT and now a 17.5 GS. Majority of the work is the same. I work on any bike I own and at 61 that will never change unless I give up r...

Re: Why don't people post on here
I like reading this forum and getting insight into another culture and country.
However this is a tuff crowd so I do not bother posting much at all any longer. Just not worth any of the negative comments or responses.

Yes have to say I have done many things that are not listed for service. Here is my post on Shifter Lube. http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/rt-series/171530-shift-linkage-lube.html I also did a exhaust flap clean/lube/inspect. http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/rt-series/171474-exhaust-flap.html Here is how I d...

Best thing you can do is buy JVB DVD and take your time. Ask questions if you need to. A Haynes Manual will help also.

Re: New bike maintenance
My 15 RT and now my 17 GS will never see a dealer for anything unless it is warranty or recall work. Keep receipts and documentation and there will be no issue. At least here in the USA. I have used my camera on a tripod and filmed the oil and FD fluid draining and me pouring ne...

Re: Oil Top Up - which oil?
I do UOA on my bikes and cars. The lab says time on oil is nothing but a waste of money. You should never change oil on time, only miles. You are paying for a additive package that prevents acidic conditions so oil sitting on your metal parts is not degrading your metal. I will ...

Re: Machine art fender extender
Saves the front of your motor from getting road blasted. Easy fit and clean fit, no holes no tape.
I just bought another for my 17 GS I just bought. First thing I put on it, and the first thing I put on my RT.
Worth every penny.

Go to 9:35 of the clip and see it. I love that suspension setup.
Anything beats a non leaning trike for me no matter where the two wheels are located, front or back.

Re: TIME TO MOVE ON
I too will have to move on eventually because of injury's. I hate the thought of it though. There is hope for me now as I just have seen this. I will take this over a Spyder any day of the week and the cost will be a heck of a lot better with a decent dealer network. It will gro...

Re: Start-up question....
That is what makes them a bad match for cold climates. You need to turn on the bike or aux. lights or something to draw the battery and make it warm up then push the start button. It needs to be warmed up by use before it reaches a charged state. Why I wont run one here in PA. W...

Re: Oil change using an oil extractor (pump)?
I do not understand why one would want to suck oil out rather then have it drain and flushing residue from the oil pan? And I have seen these quick drain items and would never trust my bike to one. Just the added mass hanging out and down from the drain plug is calling road debris to hit ...

Re: Best spark plugs to fit a 2005 RT
I asked a old buck, a master mechanic many years ago what was the best spark plug to use in a particular car I had. He said "the one it came stock with". I think the best plug is the one that comes with the motor. I mean it was the one the motor was designed around and ...

Re: Pretty embarrassing
Once at a stop I had set the bike onto the side stand and the grade was so steep I could not get the bike off the side stand no matter what I tried. A friend from our BMW club came over and gave me a nudge when I leaned/pulled to the left. I am not sure what I would have done al...
