Keyless, Central Locking, Fuel Filler Cap

I've put this in the "electrical system" because I THINK my problem is electrical ..... My 2016 R1200RT LE has keyless and central locking. With the central locking engaged, the fuel filler cap is locked.  When the bike stops and the ignition switched off, the fuel filler cap unlo...

Re: Carrying extra fuel

If I do 240 miles from full it generally takes around 20 litres, unless I am racing down autobahns or going from traffic light to traffic light in town.  So, I would expect to get more like 60 miles from 5 litres of fuel.  50 miles is only 45mpg which is easy to better on an RT. G...

Re: Is it worth £5K to change to a 2015 R1200 RT LE?

I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter. I have a 2009 R1200RT SE with 33,000 miles on the clock, everything works fine. I have had a 2007, 2010, 2013 and (currently) a 2016 R1200RT I have a hankering for a 2015 R1200RT LE with lots of toys and whistles on it. Is it worth upgrading? Only yo...

I agree with the above - please update your profile.

Re: Using bike's alarm system to warn of tampering with GPS

..... If there was a 140dB siren going off they would not persist!..... When my alarm triggers, even in the confines of the garage, it doesn't strike ma as being 140dB (which would be extremely loud !), so I would suggest that you test the alarm when you get the bike and see if you still think it's...

Re: Dual Battery Question

Whatever you do, I would advise never to connect these batteries in series (+ve to -ve, -ve to +ve).  This would give 24 volts and would cause havoc. If you connect them in parallel (+ve to +ve, -ve to -ve) then you effectively have one large 12v battery.  Whether this will improve...

Re: Curious question.

Correct.
It would be nice if the various iterations of R1200RT (those with servo brakes, SOHC, DOHC etc) and the R1250RT could all have their own areas in which to post technical queries and advice, since the answers / advice may not apply to all.

Hope your trip isn't "virused".  >:(
You should find your new bike absolutely ideal for a 4000 mile trip.  8)

Re: 2017 RT ESA fault

..... Your responses are appreciated Responses ?  - deepest sympathy !! My bike is approaching the same mileage, so I'm hoping not to have the same issues.  I hate to think what repair / replacement would cost at a BMW dealer, and I'm guessing that Ted Porter isn't anywhere close ...

Re: Brits Abroad 2020!

When the requirement for reflective stickers on helmets was introduced, I was using a black Shoei helmet.  I obtained black tape which shone white when hit by light and I rode through France waiting for someone to challenge me. Of course, this never happened and I am now wearing a dayglo ye...

Re: Tire pressure sensors

I assume we're talking about OE sensors on a R1200RT.  What year, I wonder ? I've had the BMW tyre pressure sensors on my RTs and have never had any issues with them over several years and many thousands of miles.  They do however have internal batteries which have a finite lifespan.

Re: Tank Switch Error

I'm reviving this thread because I have similar symptoms to those reported by paulgelineau. To be clear, my bike has central locking and keyless ignition (if that makes any difference). My plan is to replace the battery (3 1/2 years old and 35,000 miles).  I'm assuming the current battery i...

Re: Going from new to old RT

I'd have to go with the 2013 RT SE. My 2013 90th Anniversary Edition was a superb bike.  It did lots of long trips, including all the way around the Baltic.  It did a lot of miles over the three years I had it and never gave any trouble. 45,000 miles shouldn't be an issue if it has...

Re: Going from new to old RT

I had a 2010 RT, the first of the twin cams. No noticeable performance improvement over the single cam engine, but the switchgear was very different.  I would go for the last of the single cams rather than the first of the twin cams for that reason.  By 2013 the twin cam's switchge...
