Re: New helmet time. Which one?

Pretty sure that even the best retailers won't let you run up and down the motorway with an unpaid for lid!

Helmet buying IS a crap shoot!

Re: New helmet time. Which one?

I happened across a pretty much unused Neotec (original one) a month or so ago and thought I'd try it for a while. The inability to crack the visor open still annoys but apart from that it is an awfully good helmet. The ventilation is better than any helmet I've owned which makes my issue with the v...

Re: Foot pegs

I agree with those comments about the foot peg lowering kits. I was looking today at a way of shortening the foot pegs neatly because they keep banging my ankles every time I stop.

Re: New helmet time. Which one?

Interesting. I use a crappy Bell Qualifier for running around locally. Poor ventilation, very noisy but very comfortable and I don't mind slinging it in the boxes without worrying about scraping it. The "Transitions" visor is novel too. Would love to hear how you get on with the SRT. Seems...

Re: New helmet time. Which one?

The thing that put me off about the Neotec is that you can't just pop the visor open a couple of mm - otherwise that would have been my first choice. I get loads of wind noise behind my RT screen. It's quietest when I put it all the way down and have cleaner airflow over the helmet - all the way up ...

Re: New helmet time. Which one?

I find the Motolegends videos very informative. They are adamant that flip front helmets are the quietest because the seal around the rider's neck can be made tighter than a full face and that this is where most noise comes from. Obviously it all depends on what bike you ride and how you ride it but...

Re: Fork oil ?

I recently changed seals and oil on my forks but only because I wanted to repaint the lowers. This was at 35k miles - it was pretty clean but less came out than the recommended quantity.

Re: Best puncture repair

I've struggled with the strings in the past so bought a stop and go kit. I've repaired many car tyres with it with a 100% success rate. The repair has always lasted the remaining life of the tyre without losing any pressure. I got a puncture on my bike a couple of years ago but found that the tyre c...

Re: Foot peg lowering kit for RT

I fitted my Amazon-sourced cheapo kit in 2021, with absolutely no problems experienced since. For such a small increase in ‘drop’ the difference in comfort is surprising. I've just stuck a set of these on mine and am very impressed with the difference. The fact that I had spent the last few hours g...

Re: Fuel sensor strip 2005r1200rt

Looking at the history of my bike it seems the fuel strip was replaced at 10k miles and is still working at 35k. I haven't had a bike with a fuel gauge since a GPz750 back in the eighties so it's a bit of a novelty for me. I've been touring for the last 12 years on a bike that does 130 miles until a...

When my local Harley dealer opened about 20 years ago the Buell demo bikes were so under utilised that they used to ask me to take them for a few days to run them in. Times change.....

Pan America ugly? You're all blind. It's the best looking adventure bike out there! ....admittedly it has taken five years for me to come to that conclusion since I first saw it but I find I never appreciate really good looking stuff immediately ;). Now if they would just sort that TFT out and fit b...

Re: 2023 Poll of Tyre Options

Mine had a fairly new Bridgestone T31 GT on the back and a knackered Michelin on the front. I've just replaced the front with a new T31 (£120 vs £360 for a pair of Road 6s). When the rear has gone though I'll be powder coating the wheels and fitting a new set of Michelin Road 6s - purely from very h...
