2014 RT LC cylinder head removal - any videos

Hi all,

Does anyone have a guide or video for 2014 RT LC cylinder head removal?

I have a haynes manual which is ok but some of the steps seem a bit less well described than others.

Any help is much appreciated.

Just checked your links and the Haynes manual and you are right. 10Nm. Don't know why I had a figure of 20Nm in my head.

Lesson learned. Double check before you tighten anything!

Cylinder head cover bolt - sheared off. ahhhhhhhhhh

Hi all, Just a note to all to be careful when screwing in the three cylinder head cover bolts. I had just finished the service on my 2014 LC and was on the last bolt when I think the threads crossed and after feeling only a slight increase in resistance 'ping' and the bolt came out leaving about 10m...

Re: Replace valve shims - 2014 RT

Hi T6Pilot,
Not done the shim check yet. Another 2000 miles until the service is due which will be another 2 weeks at the moment. Clocking up 900 miles per week commuting but the bike is lapping it up.

Hopefully the valve shims will be ok and the service will be straight forward.

Cheers all for the replies. I'll leave them alone and just do the maintenance as per schedules.

Re: 2014RTW - transmission oil change - where's the drain & refill plugs

Thanks all for your replies and clarification. Just one question though.

The drain plug below and under the oil filter (near the engine oil drain plug) and the plug about 8-9" above the oil filter. Anyone know what these are?

Re: 2014RTW - transmission oil change - where's the drain & refill plugs

I looked on ascycles for 2010 and later R1200RT's and found the text below in the schedule -

"23 00 510 Gearbox-oil change (maintenance) Initially after one year, then every two years or every 40,000 km"

Re: 2014RTW - transmission oil change - where's the drain & refill plugs

It may well be. I know that most Jap bikes use the same oil for engine and gearbox.

If that is the case I wonder what the drain plug in my first post is for????

2014RTW - transmission oil change - where's the drain & refill plugs

Hi all, Been looking through the maintenance schedule and have seen that the transmission/gearbox oil should be changed every 40K KM. However I can't find this item in my Haynes manual. I looked at the bike but wanted to confirm where the drain plug and refill holes are. I think the drain plug is on...

Is Mahle the same as OEM parts

All,

Doing a search for service parts for 2014 RT wet head, and come across the Mahle brand stating it's OEM in some of its advertising material.

Is that correct?
I will be doing my own servicing but want to use OEM parts to maintain the warranty. I have OEM part numbers.

Thanks all.

Top Box brake light

Hi all,

I've bought the BMW large top box for my 2014 RT. There is a blanking plate over where an additional brake light can go.

Anyone know where to get one and if its easy to fit?

Thanks

Re: Replace valve shims - 2014 RT

Hi Levisp,

I had a look and it seems only to cover for valve checking rather than shim replacement.

I've e-mail the guy so hopefully he will clarify what's included unless you already know.

Cheers

Replace valve shims - 2014 RT

Hi all, My first topic posted so please be gentle. There are plenty of guides and Youtube vids regarding checking of the valve clearances for a 2104 RT. However, I can't find a guide to actually change the valve shims. I know it involved removing the cam shafts but has anyone else found or created a...
