Re: Varying mileage in varying temperatures

This article could provide some answers:- https://www.scientificamerican.com/arti ... economy-o/

Not all relevant to bikes but tyres, lubricant viscosity and even drag will be.

Re: Garmin, why the fascination with farm tracks?

Been there done that! >:( I now never rely on a satnav to get me where I want to go. I look at a map, plan a route so that I know where I should be going. I then use the satnav but ignore it if it tries to send me on a road that I just don't like the look of (and it will!). Just let it keep recalcul...

Re: Exhaust Pipe Flap Valve Thingy

LAF said ' So I think what is failing is the motor that those two cables got to on the flap control.  Right behind the brake pedal is a black box that those cables run to.  I suspect that is the part failing And I have misunderstood? ' [size=2px...

Re: Mirrors issue

Do you ride without the panniers fitted? I came across this with a pal riding an identical RT LC to mine. He never rode with panniers and I always do. Oddly he was always complaining the mirrors were covered in road spray while I never had a problem. I suspected that the removal of the panniers chan...

Re: Exhaust Flap Seizing

There is an earlier thread on this subject. I had the same problem on my 2014 model and BMW supplied the part under 'good will ' I paid for the labour.
It does not affect the running of the bike but I suspect it could reduce the value in a part exchange.

Re: Garmin Express Update - 5.6.1.0

I updated the maps on my Garmin yesterday to 2018.10. After doing that Basecamp refused to run with an error report box opening up containing loads of apparent faults which means absolutely nothing to me. After several attempts I gave up and uninstalled it. That I believe was V 4.6.2.0. I had an old...

Re: I improved the handling by loads today!

just be aware that if you use a right angle extender, there are two types, there is a specific one for bikes with TPMS, don't know what the difference is, but Nippy Normans has two. I happened to have the other one and it doesn't work well. Angled ones seem a bit pointless with an RT/GT as the valv...

Re: I improved the handling by loads today!

The short stems on the valves are a problem with service station air lines. I found this first with an F800 GT when I managed to completely deflate my front wheel. I now carry a valve extender in case I have to use an air line. I check my pressures and pump up my tyres at home to avoid using garage ...

Re: Gear shift assist operation

No you don't need to use the clutch to get into first.

There will however be one almighty crunch as you stall the bike. (Guess how I know that?)

The system is a gear shift assist not an automatic gearbox. ^-^

Re: Exhaust Pipe Flap Valve Thingy

They decided to drop the £100 'excess' when I picked the bike up. It cost me £132 as they charged me 9 labour units to diagnose the fault and 8 to replace the exhaust. Apart from visually I have nice shiney  header pipes there's no other difference to the bike. Sent from my SM-A300FU using ...

Re: Exhaust Pipe Flap Valve Thingy

Just dropped the bike off at the dealer to have the new system fitted. The bike is currently under an extended Insured BMW warranty. This apparently does not cover the exhaust system but BMW have agreed to supply the parts as 'Goodwill' provided I pay for the labour which is fine by me. When I dropp...
