Re: Tank protector 14 onward and 1250

From watching the news,  I'm surprised that the Russian army isn't looking for some tank protectors, too!

Re: If it weren't for bad luck...

Larry,  I know, I've been through parts of OK.  From Iowa to OKC on I-35, the west on 40 to the west coast. But that was 50 yrs ago, when there were still bits of Rte. 66 left. But on my last coast to coast trip I took I-70 west and was surprised at how hilly it got.  Nebr...

Re: If it weren't for bad luck...

Well, After listening to you tale of 'Whoa!',  your consolation prize is that the terrible day I had paled in comparison to yours, so I feel a bit better!  Dealing with the IRS (Inland Revenue to you Brits) online all day just trying to prove my own existence (which I was beginning...

Steve,  Given their exploding population,  I wouldn't rely on "replacement rubbers" from China!  They obviously are defective.

Re: Even at 6'2" my seat seems very high

I got a low seat.  If you get one, it might effectually give you the "medium" setting you're looking for.

Re: 2006 R1200RT aftermarket mirrors

My objection to the mirrors, besides looking down and away from the road ahead, is that you can't put a wide touring load behind you since it blocks the view in the fairing mirrors.

Re: Misaligned access holes in cylinder head protectors

As my Dad used to say:  "If at first you don't succeed, hit it with a hammer". Had to take the blacksmith approach:  Heated the protector with a torch and pounded it with a hammer.  Got just enough movement to reach the bolt to tighten it.  I don't think...

Re: Misaligned access holes in cylinder head protectors

I don't think mine are similar to yours.  What make are they?  I can't visualize how the short bolt thing would work unless a different valve cover bolt is provided with a threaded head to accept the short bolt. I just noticed that the rear aperture of the protector is better align...

Re: Misaligned access holes in cylinder head protectors

David,  Right.  Perhaps it's unclear from the photo, but the protector is only fitted to the lower half of the valve cover (see the second photo for clarity).  But the protectors themselves are attached to the head by the two lower valve cover bolts which can't be reached ...

Misaligned access holes in cylinder head protectors

The lower holes in my valve head protectors don't line up with the lower bolts.  Seems a bit of an oversight? I want to tighten them due to a leak at the gasket.  Hoping someone can tell the manufacturer from the photos.  The leak is on the other, undamaged protector, and ...

Re: New R 1250 RT owner.

Welcome.  Just had to decline an ex-pat's friend's offer to use his Harley tourer for a couple of years until he shipped it over.  "Have you ever ridden an RT?" was my response.  I need the twisties' handling and the acceleration that the Harley's just don't have...

DIY roadside kickstand spring removal/replacement

The spring just broke at the upper hooks on my 2009 RT. I bungied the stand up as a stop gap to contact the switch and get home.  I have another RT from which I cannibalized the spring.  Removing the upper hooks was a bitch.  Another "special tool" required.&...

Re: Gearing up for my last best bike. Strongly considering the RT. What says you?

A little creepy to know that your last bike will probably outlive you if it's a Beemer!  At 71, as my own retirement plan I'm considering buying  to leave in Europe between summer tours.  Maybe for the first time ever, I considered the factor of age:  Will I be ab...

Re: Even at 6'2" my seat seems very high

potatan,  Just checked my Haynes, and there's only the two heights.  The only thing I can think of would be to try and raise the rear of the seat.  With the adjustment bar in the low position,  place some rubber spacers on the lower rear seat frame brackets which ...

Re: Even at 6'2" my seat seems very high

I believe that my Hexheads, 05 and 09, had three heights.  Maybe you could swap one in on your 2014?  I pulled out the whole apparatus to lower the seat a bit more, so I can't confirm the three heights vs. your two (and the manual pic and instruction:  "select your de...
