Re: R1200RT vs ST1300

If you go with the hexhead RT, just be aware there's no automatic cancellation of the turn signal directly after a 90 degree turn.  You have to cancel manually, and if you forget you'll be dangerously giving false intentions to other drivers.  It does cancel after about 30 seconds ...

Re: Seat Height Advice

Scunny12,  I'm wondering if with a heavy touring load on the back seat, bags and trunk, whether the bike will sit as low as a low seat with a normal seat on?  The suspension doesn't automatically compensate for the extra weight does it?  I'll have to measure it next time I...

Re: Seat Height Advice

You may first do what I did before I bought a low seat:  Just remove all the seat height adjustment hardware, including the bracket for the rubber adjuster posts.  Worked fine for me.  Tho' I'm over 5'10", my inseam's just over 32", and especially when...

Re: Long-term bike storage

Doctor T,  When you say "look out" for ladies of the evening, do you mean beware of them, or "be sure to ogle" - or both?  If the former, I may have to consult another Doctor.  The District in Frankfurt was breathtaking (US Air Force Base just outside).

Re: Long-term bike storage

David the Hero,  AKA the "www.izard" for coming up with those storage places.  I tried and failed in my own search to find something in France, and thought "Well, that's put paid to my grand plan".  But it seems that, subject to confirmation, their bike...

Long-term bike storage

My plan to buy a bike in France/Britain, return from the US for yearly tours, and store it at a Parisian friend's garage has gone tits up,  so I'm looking for an alternative storage plan.  I was thinking of a regular storage lot with roll-up, lockable doors where'd you'd normally k...

Re: Handling Issues.

Have you tried just using the front brake lever and letting the bike activate the rear?  It's hard to overcome the tendency to use the foot lever if you've not had a bike before with this feature, but it might help.  Plus, it'll give you more mileage on you rear pads.  And...

Re: New tyre warning

That slick new tire problem used to be a real problem,  but I haven't noticed it much in the last 10 yrs or so.  I think the tire companies got tired of being sued.  They still say "be careful for the first 100 miles, etc.",  but never caution you that, ...

Re: how many ride all year?

Well, I live in Northern California, so it's not so impressive that I do.  Plus, it's legal to lane share (only state in the US), so I can't move anywhere else!  Haven't had a car for the last 14 yrs.  Even before then, my friends always asked why I even had one, since I n...

David the Hero

How about we all chip in and get David a birthday gift??  Invaluable advice, always, and we seem to keep him quite busy!  I pick his when it comes to "picking brains".

Re: How does one adjust the Instrument Panel?

Have post-hexhead models provided a "super-bright" button/setting for the display to temporary intensify the screen in difficult light conditions.  Hate taking my eyes off the road tring to make out the info on it.

Re: How does one adjust the Instrument Panel?

Is the display adjustment possible on my 2009, or just later models?

Re: How does one adjust the Instrument Panel?

As to the consumption question (on my 2009 RT):  Just press and hold the BC button until the figures disappear.  It will then show you consumption figures in "real time" after that.  To find your current consumption/mileage figures, let's say when you reach your ...

Re: Battery problem

Thanks, sakm.  Bike seems to be running fine now.  The real problem was finding distilled water!!!!  All of the auto parts stores incredible said that they no longer carry it anymore - I guess due to the advent of sealed batteries.  And supermarkets and drugstores...
