Changing the name of the color of my bike to...

I bought the Ebony Metallic color. Great color, in my opinion, with a terrible name. People see my bike in the sun and say, "Ooo, cool color! What is that?" I reply, "Ebony Metallic." and then say, "Oh, okay, I guess." So as of late when I get the question, "Cool c...

Re: Tank Protectors and Fender Extender

What are the tank protectors? Who sells those as well as various other models? How many people use them?

I have not as yet noticed any issue with mine as my knees tuck into the plastic (non-painted) area but I can see the start of a 'rub' area on the left side.

What's a 'blood bike'?

Re: Holding in first gear

I guess I should clarify two things: The 'wait time' at the average intersection here is short. I imagine that if I was waiting a long time and my hand was tiring then I might shift to neutral. The other issue is a training one: I was always taught to stay in gear because if you suddenly notice some...

Re: Holding in first gear

No. I never put my bike in neutral at a light. Ever. In fact, the only time I put the bike in neutral is when I shut it off.

Re: New 2017 gearbox clunk free.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about it. I'd have to ride it and see. I like the boxer engine and all it's quirks. One thing's for sure, I'm not going to trade in my 2016 RT to be a beta tester for the 2017! I'll wait a few years to make sure any bugs get worked out and then I'll ride it and decide then!!

Re: Suggestions for gloves

My choice would be. OEM Cylinder protectors and the OEM rubber pannier protectors.  Both will stop the paintwork touching in  drop but won't ruin the look of the bike.  If you go to the BMW website and pull up the RT under Accessories there is a picture of the cylinder pr...

Re: Suggestions for gloves

I cannot ride without gloves because I've been riding with them so long. I try at least once a season but my palms sweat and it feels awful and I go back to the gloves. Since I mostly only ride in warm weather I do only have the one pair. I ride them until they fall apart. Had a set a while back for...

Welcome to the gang! You made the right call. The RT is sexy. The GS looks like a toolbox on wheels.

Re: Back to an RT

Welcome to the Back to Boxer club! I went from the R1200C to huge Harleys for four years and while I liked them the weight grew heavy on me. Going from a 900 pound bike to the 600 pound RT, it feels like riding a scooter. But mostly I just missed the Boxer engine. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk

Re: Sargent EM-5 backrest - 4-5 week wait?!?

Funny end to this story - after all was said and done and I was able to cancel the order and get a refund, guess what showed up on my doorstep over the weekend anyway?!? Yep! A brand new Sargent back rest!! Right hand, meet left hand... Fortunately, I'm an honest guy so let them know and they'll sen...

Re: Four weeks in: Observations, comparisons, questions and photos - and a request

On the break-in of boxer engines, the last one I had didn't even really start to get really smooth until I got up over 20k and those up over 50k claimed even great smoothness. My new RT is already so smooth I can hardly wait to get to some of those mileage milestones to see if it gets even better. I...

Re: Four weeks in: Observations, comparisons, questions and photos - and a request

I am pronouncing this bikes break-in and evaluation period complete. I added the final farkle on Sunday - a Stubby antennae. I don't use the radio hardly at all opting rather to load a few hundred of my favorite songs onto a little thumb drive and play that for music. I don't always listen to music ...

Re: Color Change / Paint options

I understand the point that you would most likely lose your investment - much like farkles. I don't buy the accident argument, at least here in the states because everything is tracked by Car Fax. You could easily tell if it was in an accident. I do remove all the aftermarket add-ons I can when sell...

Re: Four weeks in: Observations, comparisons, questions and photos - and a request

For the OP: Critiques on wind effects are difficult because 'dirty air' in the hwy may take all kinds of turbulent shapes, and if you add side wind from mother nature, there ain't no telling what aerodynamic vector forces are acting upon the bike. One day it may feel ok, one day there are more pick...
