Re: Finding excuses for a ride?

As per MCN, must ride an RT though and have better road positioning than this for a right-hand bend . https://mcn-images.bauersecure.com/PageFiles/681699/822x548/aciv1491.jpg Unless, of course, there's an immediate left-hander, and no opposing traffic, in which case he's got it about right..... :) ...

Re: 12,000-Mile Service Completed

Where did you get it done? I didn't think there were many places open. My local dealership is in lockdown for the foreseeable future. I think, but stand to be corrected, that the vehicle-sales elements of both car and bike dealers are closed, but the workshop sides of the businesses are allowed to ...

Indeed there is. I've cleaned mine, fitted new suspension, taken the Merc off the road...and now use the bike exclusively whenever I have to go anywhere. The last couple of weeks have been a delight!  :)

Re: Side Stand Switch

Isn't it the centre stand hanging a bit low - just going on the kink in it? The one on my 1200ST could sit like that sometimes if I didn't give it a helpful kick! I eventually dismantled it and cleaned off the accumulated road muck that was causing the problem.

Re: Oil leak

It's likely to be the £15-ish seal behind the snap-in black ring in the pic. Be very.....that's very!.....careful if you decide to drill into the face of the metal-backed seal to get it out - immediately behind it is the face of a bearing, just a mm too far in with the drill bit will wreck the beari...

Re: What did you do today?

I've just took the rear shock off my RT - it was refurbed only 500 miles or so ago, but I think it would benefit from an uprated spring, so it's going off to the guy who did the refurb. Oh, and I've ordered a new Shock Factory unit for the front too - adjustable for compression and rebound, unlike t...

Re: Impersonating a police officer

Could there be a particular reason for this or is it just to break the ties from work, which would be understandable. Personally, I never thought that hi-viz made one bit of difference to my safety when racking up my in-service mileage. Prior to the introduction of it, I wore 2-piece black leathers...

It's just that, an opinion, but one dear to my heart!  ;)

Re: Impersonating a police officer

I rode work bikes for 20-odd years, and wore the hi-viz to go with them - never, ever again, thanks very much! I'd never criticise anyone for choosing to wear it though, that's personal choice. However.....the single, solitary reason for anyone wearing hi-viz with 'POLITE' emblazoned across it is......

Re: Lift a leg

It's a 'continental'/French thing because, of course, they drive on the wrong side of the road. be They can't wave a 'thank you' to the kindly driver with their visible right hand for obvious reasons, so the leg-wave was developed. Here in Blighty, where we drive on the correct side of the road, our...

Re: Removing the front shock R1200RT?

I'm assuming you've got the top and bottom bolts out? If it's just clearance that's the issue, certainly on the earlier RTs it made all the difference if the front engine cover was removed - that gives you that little bit extra clearance. Of course, it might be different on newer bikes, my apologies...

Re: When turning the engine over to fit new alternator belt.......

When I last did mine, it was way easier than I expected. I'd got the main plugs out anyway as I was fitting new iridium ones - big adjustable spanner on the nut (WO Eng Norman Maddox, 85 Sqn RAF would have been turning in his grave....) and the new belt went on a piece of cake. The only thing I'd sa...

Re: Indicator Issue

The l/h indicator switch on my '06 RT was playing up when I first got the bike, in that more often than not pressing it didn't do anything at all. It turned out to be the microswitch behind the paddle that was defective - I suppose there will be different sorts of 'defective', and erroneous operatio...

Re: ebay seller bluerttim (UK)

Season's Greetings all. Anyone had any dealings with ebay seller bluerttim in the UK? Set of frame bungs for an RT LC for £9.50 posted..... loads of feedback but all positive and private, only 1 item for sale. Rubs chin thoughtfully.... what do people think? Buy them - if they fit ok and you're hap...
