Re: BMW Repair Manuals DVD problem

Never, ever had a problem with mine. Has Symantec recently updated? It seems odd that the disc's worked OK previously - have you had it a while? The Heuristic virus/Heur Invader is quite a nasty one, or so I recall reading. Have you run a virus scan? Is the disc a copy sourced from the internet? Pete

Huge discount on Garmin lifetime updates.

Code PND-WINTER-MAP-19 knocks the price down to £22.50 from £74.99, using Garmin Express.

Re: starting problem

Motolectric claim their technology is different, https://motolectric.com/motolectric_technology.html I bet they do - their $75 kit for the hexheads is just replacement cables matched with some very nice marketing hot air! They might be decent-spec cables, as opposed to cheap stuff.....but 60 quid's...

Re: starting problem

The video & Motolectric website basically show that they are just doubling up on the +ve & -ve leads from the battery to the starter solenoid (+ve) & engine (earth). https://motolectric.com/install_guides/hicap/bmw/oil.hexheads/source/image/dscn7885.jpg https://motolectric.com/install_g...

Re: starting problem

I'd say the starter motor will be caked in crap inside - my '06 bike had the same symptoms....OK once in a while....till I took the plunge as per my PM. Of course, it could be a bad earth - you can have a good look around if you take the starter off - although the 1200s don't seem to suffer with tha...

Reusch Tour boots, new, size 46

These are brand new, tried on once in the house and then tucked away. Size 46, they're a roomy 11 - I have wide feet and they fit fine with just enough room for thicker socks if needed. Waterproof courtesy of a Goretex-type liner, leather uppers, double front zips and calf adjustment via Velcro flap...

Re: Things to look for when purchasing a used 2005rt

As an example, this one has just gone up for sale on UKGSer....40k miles, described as in excellent condition and well-serviced, £2995. Not much good if you're not UK based, of course!

Re: Things to look for when purchasing a used 2005rt

Unless the bike's exceptionally cheap - and I suspect it won't be, being a dealer sale - I'd say to carry on looking, the market has plenty of reasonable-miles, early RTs at low prices. I suspect my own 30k-miles '06 bike would realistically sell for around £3k - how does that compare to the one you...

Re: 2009 1200rt esa, shock problem

I might be asking the obvious here, but have you had a proper look at the unit? Ohlins usually have very obvious stickers on them that say......Ohlins! Does it have a power supply to it?.....lift the seats and have a look.

Re: Loss of power and running poor

Thanks for the information Dave and Simbo. Nice demonstration of how to check for the ineffective coil. The thing is though that the bike wont idle as it stalls at idle revs. Is it possible that perhaps 2 coils are affected? As per Steptoe's reply over on UKGSer, yes it's possible that 2 have faile...

Re: 2009 1200rt esa, shock problem

I might be wrong here - I often am! - but if it is an Ohlins unit (possible, as they usually have a yellow spring around a yellow/gold body)....I don't think they offered ESA/EC for an '09 RT......which might explain why the button does nothing!

Re: Getting the lock out of the top case ....

6 months I tried off and on Pete, with the cat "helping" by sitting in the box..... Then one day I retried and did 3 in one go one after the other!! :) After you'd re-coded the lock for me and I'd refitted it, I had a go at removing it again just to see if I could do it......easy peasy! T...

That brings back memories Steve......of lots of sweating and swearing! not  I found it helped to locate the tool in the release hole, at no. 2, by sharpening the end of it to a point. Never again.....hopefully!  >:D

Re: Final drive oil leak?

If the rear drive is buggered, let's hope it is a warranty job! If not, there's a guy in Leicestershire who rebuilds them - in fact, he does them for dealers.
