Re: Harley Sold, Gone, Now What??

Took a 3rd(more extensive) test ride today on a 17' RT. Just love it! Windshield all the way up is quiet. My dB meter read low-mid 90's at 80 MPH, so with ear plugs/Schuberth C3 Pro, my hearing loss/tinnitus (hopefully) won't get worse. I pulled the trigger, should have it sometime next week. Gettin...

Harley Sold, Gone, Now What??

I posted here last Fall considering a change from my HD Ultra Limited to a R1200RT. Since then, I was diagnosed with hearing loss with associated Tinnitus(posted on that too) which further led me to consider a  RT or Goldwing due to excellent(so I've read/heard) wind protection. Well, the H...

Does BMW Negotiate Pricing?

I'm curious. I've never bought a BMW motorcycle before...still considering the RT. For those on my side of the pond, does BMW negotiate their new bike pricing or is it etched in stone? It would be nice to not pay retail.

Re: Tinnitus and Touring

Wearing a quiet helmet is just as important as fitting an oversized screen in my opinion.  The gap in front of your chin and air vents are where most of the excessive noise can come from as well as any helmet that has the word "race" in its name.  I think there cannot be...

Re: Tinnitus and Touring

I've had tinnitus for many years, brought on riding bikes with small windscreens and shooting guns outside without ear protection. I used to get off my VFR800 then ST2 after a highway ride absolutely seeing stars from the screaming in my ears, which would last for days - and that was riding with ea...

Re: Tinnitus and Touring

I've found the soft foam ear plugs are more comfortable than the molded plugs C3 pro is a good choice helmet, you may consider waiting a few weeks as the C4 is coming our way this month RT offers good wind and noise protection, I upgraded mine by adding a quite ride windshield from Werks, they are ...

Tinnitus and Touring

I posted here a while back regarding my consideration of a R1200RT. A month ago, I was diagnosed with chronic(never to go away) Tinnitus. It is associated with high frequency hearing loss and yes, stupidity regarding a lack of protecting my ears in multiple domains. Despite the "damage already ...

Re: Considering a R1200RT...

RT, Regarding your earlier comment about a reluctance to do U-turns on narrow roads, google a few videos of the technique of shifting your weight onto the outside edge of the seat, and then try it out on smaller bike a few times.  It helps to keep imagining yourself doing it. Inner U-Turn....

Re: Considering a R1200RT...

I took a test ride yesterday on the R1200RT and loved it. Nothing like I've ever ridden before. Except to a couple of old cafe racers back in the 70's and 80's, I've only ridden cruiser/touring bikes. This is as close to a "sport bike" that I've ever been. Very impressed with the comfort, ...

Re: Goretex gloves

I use the BMW Pro Winter gloves in the relative cold(40 + degrees) and love them. Somewhat bulky, but not a real issue for me. I find them very comfortable(likewise for the Pro Summer glovres in warmer weather). For colder temps, I'll either keep the Pro Winters on along with the heated grips or use...

Re: Considering a R1200RT...

I appreciate all of the responses here. Boy, do I wish it were April vs November! I'm looking forward to taking a couple of riding courses, including Ride Like a Pro which is offered locally. I'm sure I'll test ride, then most likely rent a R1200RT for a day and take it from there. Thanks again!
