Re: 1200RT LC Pannier
Hi Beemerboy, I had the same problem with my N/S pannier. Turns out it wasn't sitting fully down on the small peg (at the top) as the black plastic surround wasn't seated correctly. (so the dealer said) Yep that is what happened with mine too. Reseated the little plastic surround on the f...

Re: Cylinder head guards or crashbars
Head guards for me. I don't like the way crash bars redistribute the forces in a crash. Also, if you have a big enough off for the head guards not to cope then you have far bigger things to worry about.

Re: Tyre replacement dilemma
PR4GTs are great for me. Like Casbar says, running the front at 38psi seems to improve the wear pattern. I get about 7k from the rear, a little more from the front.

Re: Insurance - once more probably :-)
Surprised at this. Never had a problem with any of my BMWs (1200GT/1300GT/RT LC). I'm currently with Cornmarket under the IAM scheme. Can you find out why they don't want to quote? Can your dealer offer you any help if it is a new bike?

Re: Scratching the pegs down
Slightly off topic, but I saw the consequences for a guy who found the limits of lean angle and talent on his Harley Dyna a few days ago. I got there a few minutes later and thankfully he was up and talking to his mates. Bike looked a bit sad though.

Re: Getting On The Bike
The only thing that would be a concern to me when mounting from the right side would be that the LC seems to have a long side stand and does not actually lean far to the left. If it were on a slight slope it would be almost upright, and I'm umm heavy. Could it topple? I...

Re: Main Dealer prices
Used Brembos on my old K1300GT. The guy where I bought it reckoned they were the same pad and a lot cheaper bought outside the BMW network. Worked fine, no discernable difference.

Re: Is it me - or is the Nav V / Basecamp completely useless for planning
Basecamp is all of the awful things people say above, and more, until you get used to it. I use it all the time now, and have very few problems. Just back from an 8 day trip planned on Basecamp. The way I do it is to plan the entire route (this one was 2200 miles), then...

Re: Fuel error
Just been away for a week on my 16RT LC so was keeping an eye on this. Bimbling around on nice Scottish roads the miles ridden since last fill + miles left hovered around 300. As soon as I got on to dual carriageways this would fall to about 260. Pretty consistent.&...

The reflection that I have most trouble with is off the back of the silver yoke. Might do a bodge with tape to see how good that is before looking for something more permanent.

Re: 500+ mile days.
I agree with gogs01 above; special events aside, time is a better planner than miles. Just returned from a week in Scotland, planning to ride about 7 hours each day. The daily mileages worked out between 210 and 410. Was lucky enough to get great weather for the spectac...
