Re: Good place to mount video cam?
I've used a RAM ball mount bolt (the sort that you can use to replace one of the handlebar bolts on the yoke). I removed the bar end weight and the RAM bolt is the same thread etc. I can then mount the camera a the end of the handlebar and access it easily on the move.

Re: New RT Rider - Couple of Questions
I've just got a 2007 RT and I suffer from numb/tingling hands after riding at about 4,000 RPM/80mph. i have ordered some heavier bar end weights from www.manicsalamander.com i will report back how effective they are In the UK, from the BMW handbook and Haynes manual - first 6,000 miles then 12,000 ...

Re: New RT Rider - Couple of Questions
On an '09 the service interval is 12,000 miles. If the vibration is excessive then the injectors may need balancing. Grip Puppies are well worth fitting as they did stop tingling fingers for me.

Re: Heavier bar end weights - where from?
I noticed tingling in my hands after my first long ride on my 2007 RT. As the grips looked a bit worn anyway I fitted some Grip Puppies and now I don't get the tingling anymore. For £16 a pair they might be worth a try?

Re: Cylinder protector advice needed
I have just taken delivery of the OEM ones from Motorworks and was quite pleased to find that just by removing the bottom fairing screws I had access to the M6 torx bolts; I was less happy to find that I needed longer ones to fit the protectors which weren't supplied, so I've had to buy some 20mm lo...

I fitted some the other weeks and they stopped all the tingling/numbness, even after a 5 hour ride.

2005-2009 model - service
I just thought I'd add a post as I have done a service on my 2007 R1200RT - engine oil/filter, gearbox oil, final drive oil and splines, air filter, alternator belt, valve gaps and new plugs. Once all the bodywork was off it was much simpler than I had envisaged and I'm pleased I did it all myself. ...

Where did you apply the oil and what was it? I have the same issue.Ch00 wrote: I have been checking the lock over the last couple of days and its working perfectly!!!
I did nothing apart from oil it on day 1. I will keep my eye on it and get it looked at during its next service.

Re: Top Box Seals Itself Shut
My Kappa top box used to do this on the other bike. You can see the same effect on a plastic bottle of cold water when it warms up - it contracts. This is usually an issue when the air inside the box was/is colder than the then ambient temperature, so yes, they can fit that well. I drilled a tiny ho...

I recently bought a 2007 with 28,000 miles in Biarritz Blue with matching luggage. Only been out a couple of trips but it's a great bike and I'm looking forward to some long continental tours this summer (haha, did I say summer!)

Although the web address is co.uk and the prices are in pounds they are based in Karlsruhe Germany. http://www.m...
