Not very convincing, I think the telling statement was when he said how he had ridden the 1200 and didn't think it was missing anything. To describe the 1200 as a bit breathless at the top end is a bit irrelevant, especially on the GS which is after all a giant trail bike. If they had stuck to sayin...

so an update, had a call from the Motorrad Centre and they have confirmed that the engine will be replaced under warranty. Don't have the full details around what was found, but BMW UK gave them the go ahead to investigate further. One happy customer tonight, shame it's taken so long to get to this...

It does seem a bit strange that you bought an enormous trail bike that required lowering in preference to the RT which, with the low seat option, would probably have suited you much better. My vote would be South Island, New Zealand. Fabulous roads, sights and people and such a lot of space with very little traffic.
