Re: Swapping parts to a twin-cam bike?

I picked the bike up from Norwich this morning and had a most pleasant ride home. It was really interesting and pleasing to see how BMW had developed the bike from my previous 2006 incarnation. Loved the improved performance (torque and pick-up), how about that exhaust note. It also points and steer...

Re: Swapping parts to a twin-cam bike?

Where are the four screws for the instrument cluster located? On my 2006 bike I Think I had to remove the mirrors to find them.

Re: Swapping parts to a twin-cam bike?

Great, thanks David & RTMan10 for the detailed clarification. I'll give my local dealer a call this morning. Regarding the satnav cable run to the power socket under the headstock. On my 06 bike I had to ran this down the side of the instrument cluster. Does the later bikes have a hole/channel t...

If you mean the bar and the block to fit the GPS cradle to the kit includes all you need.

Yes, bar, block and the sticky tape. Got to get a move on as I'm going on tour 16th June hence trying to locate parts. New old stock if possible.

Re: Swapping parts to a twin-cam bike?

Well the deal has been struck and I pick-up the bike a week on Friday. In this case I need to locate the satnav bracket and film. Has anybody used KFM Motorrader as they seem to have the items in stock. Just wondered about how good and quick the service was?

Re: Swapping parts to a twin-cam bike?

Well something is definitely different .  If you try fitting the 2010 Nav bracket on the earlier bike it doesn't quite fit and the Nav will hit the screen when it's lowered. I suspect all the top panels are different as well. Well I'm hoping to close the deal tomorrow morning and then its ...

Re: Swapping parts to a twin-cam bike?

RealOEM lists the same part nos. for the windshield support(s) #2 for 1200 RT's from (11/2003 - 06/2014), https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0368-EUR-01-2006-K26-BMW-R_1200_RT_05_0368,0388_&diagId=46_0918 Surely, therefore the mounting points must be in the same place and the screens...

https://www.kfm-motorraeder.de/cms/en/genuine-spare-parts/bmw-spare-parts?itemid=71607708580 Perfect, do we know if the BMW 4-button cradle or Garmin mount (I've got both) will bolt straight onto this or is there a further hardware interface required? https://www.ascycles.com/images/products/BMW/71...

Re: Swapping parts to a twin-cam bike?

Every thing will swap except for the screen.  Think the bolt holes are a bit different.  But the screen is better anyway.  As for the engine, some will argue the twin cam is better that the LC so its very subjective.  I've had them all and have found that on the ...

Swapping parts to a twin-cam bike?

Having recently fitted a set of clearwater leds to my trusty 2006 RT I though I was all done with modifications and I would just enjoy the bike over the next couple of years on my annual tour (it's the only time the bike really gets used),hence the low 19k miles. But I've got a nagging doubt about t...

Re: what if

The 2017 RT gearbox was streets ahead of my 2014 one. But it doesn't bother me enough to trade up, well not yet anyway  8) Trade up, that would be nice. But actually the only gripe I've got with my 2006 RT is the porridge gearbox. With the comfort seat and taller screen the bike is near pe...

Re: Clearwater lamps

If you can find them, I highly recommend posi-tap connectors.  They will allow you to tap into the existing wire harness without cutting and can be removed later, leaving only a small pinhole in the insulation.  I used them to connect an autocomm to the factory radio (see photo). ...
