I can see why someone may have done that. The connector under the seat slows down top box fitting or removal. But to be fair how often is that?
I would suspect the connector gets a bit of dirt and water off the back wheel. Best left under the seat maybe.

I recently fitted one of these and I can say after a 1500 miles European trip that my time in the saddle before numb bum was so much longer. Works for me. I bought the medium sized one. I don't like the look so only use it for longer trip...

I think you have it there, accountants saving a Euro or two on cheap metals. It's not so bad on an RT with the bodywork but looks awful on a GS.
