Re: My RT may be haunted
Found the ghost. Turns out it was my own fault. When I was splicing the new headlight plug pigtail, I had to move the cruise control module out of the way. On reassembly, the edge of the cable housing on the cruise control throttle actuator cable got caught on the edge of the rubber dust cover whic...

Re: Exhaust Pipe Flap Valve Thingy
I had exactly the same issue - outside warranty.
Dealer got BMW UK to pay for parts (£1,200 from memory - they have to replace the entire downpipe) if I paid for the labour (less than £100)
No need to panic yet...

Re: High octane fuel - worth the extra for the LC?
I find it difficult to believe that supermarkets are selling sub standard fuel and if you continually use it you will end up with a choked up engine. The days of decokeing your engine came to an end many years ago. It's all hype to empty your wallet that much quicker. I agree. Next somebo...

Re: 2000 r1100rs
Thanks for the advice. Really looking forward to learning more about the bike. Changing fluids seems like a good first step. I did get the Clymer manual and have the "Oilhead Maintenance Manual" pdf. Any other resource recommendations that would be worthwhile to check out - I'd love to he...

Re: Pannier liners/inner bags?
Kathy's Journey Designs are an excellent alternative to the BMW ones - and about 1/3 the price.
I had BMW ones on my RTLC but use KJDs for my GS.
Are they as good? No.
Are they good enough? Yes.

Re: The 1200RT is on my shopping list!
Not really lockable. It's an alloy screw in cap to replace the black plastic one. You get a special key/spanner to unscrew it. I had one on my 2009 and although it fitted the LC the plastic round the back of the pot partially comes overs it and its difficult to get the...

Might be a dumb question but have you tried:
1 - Garmin?
2 - ebay?

To be fair, my RT had central locking and a remote alarm, so the only think keyless would have added was ignition and fuel cap.
I'm still totally unconvinced about keyless, despite having had it twice!

Re: Emergency key for keyless
Yes the fob, has a flip out key, several riders have reported breaking there fob trying to unlock seat and or non electric top case, I ordered an additional key for my keyless Multistrada and keyless GS, not chipped or anything, just to use for luggage, seat and satnav bracket. Means no n...

Re: Windscreen stuck it up position
Got it in one. It's a dead cert that any scheme you can think up to save a quid or two on warranty costs are only going to end up as no warranty. My extended warranty last year costs £360. Take off the price of Emergency Assistance and it brings it down to about £280. ...
