Hello Sometime forcing the brake pistons back into the calipers sends a large volume of  fluid back into a master cylinder  this can damage the master cylinder seals or force dirt  into the chamber  so you are not getting any pressure as the fluid just flows past ...

That's not the diagnostic port. MY17 bikes were required to meet some EU regulation about diagnostics and have changed to the standard automotive OBD-II connector. It's tucked away next to the battery under the right hand side panel, you need to unclip it, then remove a cap to access it.  ...

I wanted to get as near home as possible before it was dark.  So quite a bit of the time  I was moving on some.  That said  worst ins recent months from a tank has been  40.65  and best 54.41  so  49 is not too bad.

The OP  does not say what the gradient was like or how much the bike was loaded.  Personally with two up  I would have been in 4th even on a down hill  just in case I needed that instant poke.    Running the engine to the red when it warm is not ...

IAM now has a fellows option which requires a re test every 3 years. I have been riding for over 40 years offand on  did my IAM 10 years ago and stayed on to become an observer.  Still learning even after  10 years but its good fun and being an observer with regular retest...
