Re: Datatag registration on new bike

Thanks, so hopefully I will get something through the post at some point (Christmas post not withstanding). There is certainly no visible, external marker to indicate that the bike has been tagged - which seems to me to rather defeat the objective as a deterrent. I might take a look and see if I ca...

Datatag registration on new bike

Once I started taking my new RT to bits I immediately noticed a Datatag sticker on the frame under the seat. Did a quick Google and discovered that it is standard on all BMWs. Yet another thing that the dealership failed to mention. My question is: will the bike already have been registered in my na...

Re: Battery Charging

I have an Optimate 4, purchased with the lead that connects in to the accessory socket on the bike. It's now on at least my third BMW motorcycle, is more than 5 years old, and still going strong. Definitely no regrets on that purchase.

Re: Rain? Road? Dynamic? ... Or mix it a bit?

System works great for music if you just insert a card into cable already there. Load only MP3 format. ... Did I read somewhere that the same cable can be had from BMW Mini for a fraction of the Motorrad price. Already got a USB stick installed there with a few albums - but 90% of my music is in iT...

Re: Rain? Road? Dynamic? ... Or mix it a bit?

Make a point of pointing out his mistake . Might stop him confusing others. He's already going to get it in the ear from me a bit on Monday anyway. Not impressed that I spent a small fortune on the audio system and he omitted to mention that it won't talk to my iPod or iPhone without a custom BMW c...

Re: Rain? Road? Dynamic? ... Or mix it a bit?

:-[ Okay, so it looks like the sales guy at my dealership is a bit of a numpty (I know for a fact they sell far more GS' than they do RT'). So we were going through the options on the bike menus and he set it to Rain (it was raining outside). I immediately noticed that the suspension stayed in Norm...

Re: Rain? Road? Dynamic? ... Or mix it a bit?

I'm afraid it does. Change the suspension mode? Not on mine it doesn't. It was one of the first things I noticed when the sales guy was showing me over the bike - change to Rain or Dynamic and the ESA stays in Normal. He said it doesn't work that way on the RT (presumably he meant the new 2017 RT I...

Re: Rain? Road? Dynamic? ... Or mix it a bit?

I'm looking forward to exploring the different modes on the RT. On my 2013 GS the modes also changed the suspension setup - so Rain set the ESA to Soft, Road to Normal and Dynamic to Hard. The result was that I found it quite tiring to ride the bike in Dynamic mode and annoying to have to remember t...

Re: It's here!

And you left it at arms length in liverpool.....Rule 1 in the IAM handbook In my defence, I did set the alarm. :be happy: The swingarm and drive assembly are both black on mine, and the frame is silver. It's fairly subtle to be honest, I didn't notice the engine was black until I was fitting the fr...

Re: It's here!

Thanks for the feedback. I have experienced the weave, many years ago on an ER-5 with a 45L top-box on. Given that I was a new rider, and had never experienced the front going light before, it was fairly alarming and hence memorable. I can honestly say that my GS, even with the 52L box on, has never...

Re: It's here!

Not sure I follow these remarks about the white RT and references to looking or trying to look like the police They look nothing like To be absolutely clear, I am not trying to make my bike look like a police bike. From pictures I have seen there are a couple of bikes in our local IAM that have gon...

Re: It's here!

It's probably OK but there have been instances of high speed instability with oversized aftermarket top boxes.  Mainly affecting the GS . Probably depends on the box. That one has been on the back of my GS for 18 months and has done ~10k motorway miles in that time. Not the slightest probl...
