What he said, releasing is far easier than "revving" over it!

Re: Panel torx screws - Is there a rhyme or reason for the different shank lengths?

I think they are designed to ensure there is no pressure on any trim panel they go through, so if they go through two panels they had the long shank, one trim panel the short shank and no trim panels no shank.

Somewhere there is an instruction sheet detail which goes where.

Re: Pannier 'City lids' for R1200RT LC

And your reason for fitting them is?  Can't be filtering, if the front goes through so does the back.  They are designed that way. One of the advantages of the OEM is if you are unfortunate enough to drop it at a standstill (easily done). , the lids save some very expensive bodywo...

Re: Slim panniers , do they exist ?

I do a fair bit of filtering in this country and abroad and the panniers aren't an issue for me. My panniers are on the bike unless it's going into the dealer for service. Big thumbs up for Hornig city lids for filtering!! There is no way I could filter with standard lids on the panniers, how do I ...

Re: what if

... when my brother was running a K1600GT and we did a couple of 3000 mile tours, his bike used almost the same amount of fuel as mine (54 mpg against 56 mpg for the RT). That six cylinder bike was an absolute rocket but, if ridden with reasonable restraint, it was super economical too. Don't know ...

BMW even made OEM city lids for the R1150RT and also "double sized" extra wide lids!

Re: Replacing the grips

Was wondering if anyone thought of, or even did, change the big fat grips the RT comes with. Mine is a 2008 with the largest OD and a distinctive unappealing look! Yes, is a heated one, but I see no use for that. So would like to replace the grips with a standard, after market grip. Any suggestions...

Re: 2008 RT grips mod

I have a 2008 R1200RT. Heated grips, cruise control, and it all works fine! But I have a problem : Am not comfortable with the grip's diameter, that is larger than a standard bike's, and no after market grips can be used. Am sure this can be modified! Am willing to give up the heaters, to be able i...

Re: Auxiliary light switch for LC

BMW made a very nice 2 switch housing for the authority bikes (R1150RTs I think) that fits the R1200RT WC bikes just fine. There is a range of switches and legends all of which are still available. Of course being BMW they are not cheap, I think about the £50-£75 for the housing, screws and two swit...

Re: Garmin Nav 6 'My Motorcycle' App

I asked my dealer about this a couple of weeks ago, when I was looking at new RTs. He said it was down to the model of Nav vi, depends when it was built, which seems a load of rubbish is Nav Vs work Indeed. I wonder if this functionality might be available for earlier MY bikes with a software updat...

Re: Nice simple lock

I fitted the Old Timers kit which really is the "nicest and cleanest" solution as it locks the Nav V via the bike's central locking. No extra keys or additional action needed when parking the bike. But I have to agree that BMW need to come with something better for the next version of the ...

+1 - NB my panniers have "city lids" fitted so are much narrower than the standard pannier and I still have clear mirrors.

Re: Full TFT dash

BMW are rolling this out as an option starting with the R1200GS and GS Adventure. In terms of clarity and comprehensive information available at a glance it looks a big step forward. On the GS configurator it costs £595. The UK Motorrad website says other models "will follow". Does anyone...
