Re: New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

Thanks guys.  I read that Telelever is adept at keeping the front tire contact patch more consistent than conventional forks, which makes sense as to why it feels so planted.  @Levisp, when you say that most people find the motor more of a challenge, could you elaborate? ...

Re: New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

Agree with sakm. In the past I have owner Both FJR1300 and Pan ST1300. The RT in comparison is much better handling bike and lighter. Only a good long test ride will answer your question as to how you like the RT. From my experience most people find the motor more of a challenge than the front end s...

Re: New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

One other thing to consider is how important is weather protection. I owned a GS before my RT. The GS gave less weather protection than my RT. Riding the GS in wet dirty conditions resulted in my lower legs and boots getting covered in dirt, something that does not happen with my RT.

Re: New guy looking at getting first sport touring bike

All good bikes. I think I would consider two additional things. How much power do you want and range. I test rode the Multistrada V4 last summer. Amazing bike but for me too much power and poor fuel consumption / range. If touring long distances are a requirement then I think range is important. Als...

Re: R1250RT 2021 spare aux plugs

If you buy the ready made splitter then when you come and sell the bike you can put it all back to original and sell the splitter. So effectively the splitter would only cost say £30. What's not to like. Easy stress free solution. Job done. Another good find by David.

Re: R1250RT 2021 spare aux plugs

Thats a horrible method of splicing into a wire. If you are going to splice into a wire use Pozi-Taps. At least these cause virtually no damage to the wire.

However I would spend the £60.

Re: Paint Protection Kits - any cons?

When I got my bike back in 2014 I had the dealer fit Venture Shield paint protection. It is simply brilliant. Very hard to see. Treat it as if it's not there, so wash and wax as normal. If you want to take it off then it just peals off leaving no residue or paint damage. As far as I know most are UV...

Neat easy way to tap into aux socket.

Re: Headlights plastic cover replacement r1200rt 2014

That's my bike David has posted after an impact with a stupid pheasant. Yes if the OP is referring to the actual lens of the headlight it is a sealed unit and it's expensive. It comes complete with new bulbs and is relatively easy to replace yourself once the bodywork is off the bike. One reason the...

Re: 2021 R1250RT Phone Cubby Problem

The connectivity cradle is really for those who have a smart phone but do not have a Garmin or TomTom. For them it's a smart solution. I see no advantage in ditching your expensive Garmin if you already own one. I wonder if BMW will ever make their app available to anyone as a standalone navigation ...

Re: 2021 R1250RT Phone Cubby Problem

GS owners with TFT screen and Nav Prep can now buy a BMW connectivity cradle that connects to the sat nav mount which holds a phone. The BMW navigation app on phone is then paired to the connectivity module which then allows users to use the app for navigation. I believe the module also has a power ...

Re: 2021 R1250RT Phone Cubby Problem

They will probably sort out the software on the TFT and connected app, but as it stands, you have to switch off screen lock and have it always on or it loses connection. You also need to run the app to always on, or again it goes to sleep and loses the connection. It doesn't lose blue tooth but wi ...

Re: 2021 R1250RT Phone Cubby Problem

I'm surprised that after 1.5 hours of navigation the iPhone 12 loses 75% power. I can understand this if you are using the iPhone to navigate with screen on full brightness but connected to the bike surely the screen is off. When I use my iPhone 12 with Beeline Moto or BT to my KTM using KTM MyRide ...

Re: 2021 R1250RT Phone Cubby Problem

The cubby hole is a set size, phone manufacturers are probably not consulting BMW to make sure their models fit. Buy a phone that fits, or carry the phone in your pocket, that is what we do as our RT is the base model and came without the charging cubby hole on the right. Everything works fine. So ...

Re: 2021 R1250RT Phone Cubby Problem

Don't want to be controversial here but I don't think you can blame BMW for that one. Think its your mistake. After all if you had the iPhone 11 Pro Max you should have known how much room was left for anything bigger. However does the phone have to be in the cubby hole ? Can you put in in a small t...
